Clutch Caught on something

I have a Peugeot 206 LX.

Quite frequently, when I depress the clutch, it seems to get caught on some thing.

Sometimes, the clutch is depressed, and the car remains in gear, and this I resolve by depressing it a couple of times and that seems to free it.

It is getting difficult to get it into or out of gears, and is quite tempramental.

Has anyone had a similar problem, and can anyine advise what the problem might be

Hi Mickster,

Sounds as if you could have problems with your pressure plate assembly or the clutch release mechanism is worn. How old is the car and how many miles has it done? Is most of your driving in town where the clutch is used a lot?

When you say it seems to get caught on something can you be more precise? Does it make a noise, or is it just something you "feel" through the pedal.

The car is 6 years old, and yes much of the driving is in town. It's done 57,000 miles.

It feels like the clutch is stuck on some thing, but on one or two occasions, event though the clutch is depressed, the engine remains engaged, until I double declutch.

The clutch was replaced in january last year.

Thank you for the further info - very useful.

Looking at it logically, if the clutch assembly was replaced last year and you've had no trouble until now then I would think that the assembly itself (pressure plate, driven plate and release bearing) is OK. (I assume you don't thrash it.) Unless the pressure plate is breaking up of course but I think you'd hear a noise.

Suspicion falls therefore on the hydraulics, especially if pressing the pedal two or three times gets the clutch to work eventually. There may even be tell-tale signs of hydraulic fluid weeping from the clutch. If so it is likely that the seals in the cylinder are perishing. This can let fluid out, and air in, which will make the pedal "spongy" - hence the need to "pump" the pedal to get the clutch to disengage. These days garages tend to replace the whole hydraulic cylinder rather than stripping them down to renew the seals.

I should get your local Peugeot / clutch specialist to check it out unless you are experienced working on hydraulics.

yep.i would geuss at a the clutch slave cylinder is leaking,causing the clutch not to disengage.
check your brake fluid and see if its gone down?clutch takes same feed from the resivoiur.
