help water in engine

does anyone know how water could have got into my air filter killing my engine. peugeot reckon it could have only got in by submergeing my car two and half feet deep in water so are refuseing to pay out . i would remember submerging my car so i think there is some sort of leak it rained heavily the night before this happened any ideas ???

Haven't experienced it myself but came across this on the web.
Engine cutting out in the wet :
Water flowing over the headlamp and wetting air filter. A reader from Poland has had similar
problems with the ingress of snow and ice.
Fix : Dealer altered water run off channel to miss filter.
