Help! Confused!!!

Whilst driving around last night my car had a "Christine" moment....
Approaching traffic lights doing about 20mph - Fual guage dropped from half to empty, yellow fuel light came on and "STOP" light came on. No message from centre display and car didn't stall or anything. Went off after about 10 seconds and everything appears normal again...
Any ideas??? :???:

car was having a nightmare and ran out of petrol and then woke up again so everything was ok ???
