Heavy rear end shunt, from a 4x4.

My wife had a heavy rear end shunt on the A41 yesterday and we've just been over to see the car at the recovery yard.

Fronts fine, no collision there.

Drivers side rear stoved in, but being a 4x4 that hit her it missed the lower section of the boot and went straight for the lid bit that hinges up and the light cluster.

So the light cluster is gone, the wheel arch all bowed, bumper pushed in to about an inch from the wheel and the lid bit had created a big ding in the rear roof up-right and is loose on its hinges.

All on a Y plate 2.0CC (one fo the first in the country in fact).

We think it is close to a writeoff, but any one else had experince of roof damaged repair/replacement costs?

it may be a right off,as the roof is the major part of the car,after the engine of course BUT if they did repair it, i'm sure the roof won't work the same as it did when it left the factory

i trust that everyone involved is ok,which is the main thing ?

Everyone fine, including T-Minus 4 months baby, no thanks to Watford General who kept us hanging on for 5 hours just for a 30sec check of the baby's hearbeat.

A repaired roof would be our worry, if they do fix it, we will certainly give them a list of all the things we would check when we picked it up, that should scare them a bit!

Being one of the first off the line, like yours iirc, we have had very little in the way of faults or leaks. I guess we got ours before they wound the speed up on the production line

Anyone else with experience?

We should know tomorrow, keep you posted.

Would like to see pictures but from what you describe I would have it's written off for your own sake.

depends what you want it to be as well....if you want it written off, i'm sure it wouldn't take much to make sure it was.

however if you want it back, pm me and i'll let you know what I did with my insurance company. nothing dodgy lol just cant be bothered to go into it now on the boards lol.

they said mine was a definate write off, but i got it back on saturday

My transport for the next couple of weeks is in the form of a biscuit tin on wheels with what seems like a Lego motor.............I didn't realise you could still get cars with a tape deck, windey windows, no central locking, no alarm, analogue clock and no rev counter. Drove it the 200 miles home last night which was the most tedious journey in history, still at least most of it was motorway miles and I didn't have to use the gearbox that feels like it's filled with jelly!!!!! I'm really going to appreciate my car when she gets back.

aaah!! poor foxy!

it didn't do it on purpose you know! at least you saved it from being chased and murdered by a pack of hounds i guess.... and at least you lived to tell the tale.

I have got to drive around in a Ford Ka until I get my comfortable climate controlled leather seated 4 speakered CD playing baby back.....poor Dave more like....sod the fox.
