Hi All,

Wish I had discovered this forum before buying an '02 CC with the 2litre lump and 27K miles about 6 weeks ago!

Yes, you've guessed it - the dreaded engine diagnostic light is now coming on with the 'antipollution fault' message and now and again the cat fault message for good measure. A bit long winded but here's the full story

Car is always garaged and the symptoms are:

Starts without fail on the button and idles well for approximately 2 minutes before giving a noticeable miss and then starts to run lumpily. At the same time the engine diagnostic light comes on and the fault message appears. Once warmed up the car generally runs faultlessly although my wife has said that she had a couple of jerky rides in it after starting and pulling away without letting it warm up a bit.

The car went into the Exeter Pug dealer for examination 2 weeks ago and after diagnosing an intermittent misfire on cylinder no 1 they changed the coil pack, leads and plugs. No sign of a fault code for 7 days but then it started again. Back to the dealer and more plugging into the diagnostics and the same fault comes up - intermittent misfire No 1 - with the request to now pay £730 to replace the hydraulic followers :?

From the information on this thread I presume we've got to bite the bullet and change the followers for the 1.8 litre versions? Or would there be a possibility that the downstream Lambda sensor is playing up?

All info gratefully received.

BTW How much of a job is it to replace the followers? I have a decent garage area and am not adverse to wielding the odd spanner but mainly on motorbikes

Cheers

As an add on to my last message:

Do you have the Peugeot part nos for the 1.8 followers and any other bits required - I take it there must be a rocker box gasket and cam seal(s), anything else?

While I'm in there, would it be a good idea to change the cam belt as well.

Cheers

Graham

o.key dokey.
the tappet part number you need is 0942.48(ina) x16
x2 cam seals and x2 rocker cover gaskets.
with a ramp and air tools will take aprrox 1.5 hrs to do.
hope this helps. :D

That's great. Thanks a lot.

Do you reckon it would be adviseable to change the cam belt as well while I've got it stripped down? Engine has 27K on it.

OK,

Now I'm armed with a bit of info about this, plus a copy of the Peugeot Technical Bulletin which was posted on another thread, I'm writing to Peugeot to ask how they can admit to knowing there was a batch of faulty hydraulic cam followers manufactured and fitted and not make at least some contribution towards replacement.

Interesting that the 'After-Sales Fix' is to charge the customer just short of a Grand to replace the coil pack and then replace the followers with those from a different engine

Maybe they are hoping that the affected vehicles will all have passed beyond the warranty period before the fault showed up? What else would have explained the lack of a vehicle recall on this one?

Fair comment ;)

What about replacing parts that they are effectively admitting knowing were defective from when the engine was built? Are they just keeping hush, hush on the subject unless confronted by an irate end user (me  ) in the hope that it won't cost them anything? ;)

Hi,
Not sure if any1 will read this as the last reply was months ago!
Got a 206 Hdi and the auto diagnostic warning light just came on, it won't lemme go over 2K revs in any gear. Sounds a lot like problems people have been having but any ideas on prices?

Regards

hia mate.
the above prob on tis thread only affects the 2.0 petrol engines.
your hdi has got a serious fault and has put itsself into limp home mode or degraded mode hence it wont rev out.tis trying to pressurvie itself
what hdi do you have? 90,110.1.4 etc.
