It's not a scam but only a deal if it ever comes off.
My personal opinion is that it will never happen - business reasons.

Have sent long e-mail to these guys asking for ethical response. I am all for cheaper petrol but not at the expense of war. They promise reduction in prices but at what cost? I am very worried that global corruption or even worse, crime, is trying to muscle in here.
There must be something involved.
I hate paying loads of money for petrol, we all do, but there is war in the region it comes from. Any offer of cheap petrol should be treated with suspicion.

Wow slow down there!
I believe the guy behind this is a car enthusiast and is simply trying to get enough people together in order for a small reduction in the price of petrol. In the same way as you might buy any other item in bulk and get a small reduction. Large corporations get such discounts from petrol companies because they have clout so why not a small group of "commoners" too! It will mean that the oil companies will be bidding for our custom. It will not affect governmental decisions, as it is the oil companies’ profit that will need to be reduced unlike the blockades we saw a few years back which were directly aimed at the government and the amount of tax we pay on fuel.
I saw that Shell has made record breaking amounts of money this year and yet we are led to believe that they can not reduce there prices as they do not set the price of oil.
I say this and yet my principle opinion to fuel prices is that they should be kept artificially high so that demand for inefficient vehicles is kept to a minimum and that "greener" solutions can be developed by car manufacturers. It’s just a shame that the tax we pay on petrol is not invested in such developments. However if I can get something cheaper without causing any harm then I will.
