Well i have given up with the Peugeot stalk adapters all together. Had the Sony one fitted and its way better (if you have a Sony radio of course). You can do every feature on the radio. You can even turn it on and off without taking your hands of the wheel.
There are 2 versions, infra red and cabled. I have had the cable one fittedas the infra red doesnt work with the roof down when its sunny.

Its a black panel, a CDX-CA850, the one with no buttons.
It needs an adapter to use the Peugeot stalk which without the extra bit to mod it will flatten the battery in 3 days (thats from experience on both our cars).
The Sont controller just plgs into the back of the head unit, even a child can wire it up. Or me!!

Great! Thats the same model im thinking about! Did you change the speakers to or did you just switched the headunit?
Is there a big differens in sound quality if you compare to the one that comes with the car?
Regard

There is a huge difference.
I fitted Sony Xplod XS-F1721 in the front and XS-F1021 in the rear. Its so much better, I am not ashamed to have the stereo on now when the roof is down.
Have a look at http://www.xplodsony.com
If you look at the head unit section you can even demo it.
Please note that the CDX-CA860 that is also shown on this screen is a US only product.

Yes I had the stalk removed, its only 3 small screws and a clip plug.
When you fit the Sony stalk make sure you move it as far towards the keys as possible without damaging the wire. This leaves enough room to turn the wheel without changing tracks on the CD

Wish I had read your comments earlier. I have been experiencing battery troubles. (Batttery dead after 2 days). Took the car in to my dealer who tracked the problem to the stalk.
Rob you mentioned a modifictaion. Whats is it? and can/ was this done on the autoleads connection to connect sony head unit to peugeot stalk.

The best option but the most time conusming is what i did
i wired the sony controller to the factory stalk
there are 4 points in the factory stalk that control Vol + and Vol - Track + and Track -
i just soldered those to the same point on the sony one
works perfectky and no battery drain as the sony is not powered
the sony remote works by connecting different value resistors
here is the list
0 OFF
2.2k SOURCE
4.4k MUTE
6.6k LIST(DISP)
8.8k SEEK UP
12.1k SEEK DOWN
16.8k VOLUME UP
23.6k VOLUME DOWN
33.6k SELECT
48.6k MODE
if anybody needs help with this i can take pictures of how i did it

Emma, the modification is an autoleads 'add on', it just plugs into the existing wires.
The wiring idea is a good one but we have the warranty problems then.
I would suggest, if you have a Sony buying the R4XMS (I think thats the model) stalk and taking the original out and placing it there. It only costs £25 and offers far more features and is easier to use than the Peugeot original.
