Suggest you contact your nearest stainless steel exhaust fitter! Try Longlife 08002799900, www.exhausts.uk.com

They offered to fit my new one in due course to spec for about £400, but it depends what you get.

Let us know how you get on.

Aren't cars a pain!

Like many others I have just been told that I have to replace my whole exhaust system including the catalytic converter that is in good condition.

Although my 206cc is the 2001 model i.e. outside its warranty period I decided to make a complaint to Peugeot as recommended by Kwik Fit due to a design fault.

After a few phonecalls I finally spoke with a customer care manager who admitted that there was a design fault but I did not have a leg to stand on as it was not within warranty.

The Peugeot dealer said that I could not get it done for less than £900 but Kwik Fit quoted me £570. Peugeot said that Kwik Fit will not use Peugeot parts but Kwik Fit said that they ordered this part direct from the dealer?!!

HELP! what do I do? Who do I believe? Why the hell shoudl I pay out all this money due to a design fault that they are admitting to?!

they would class it as 'wear n tear' as it's anout 4 years old and they don't last for ever

the kwik fit quote is pretty cheap if it is for the entire system including cat that is :)

Just to let you know, I have had my exhaust done! It was done by Longlife Exhausts in Carshalton, and I'm very happy with it.

Just £ 324 rather than £ 923, and it should last as it's a stainless steel one. (The cat didn't need replacing, but they said even if it did it would be under £ 200 extra)

Even got to choose how noisy they made it, and being an old lady I chose the quietest and I think it's quieter than it ever used to be. Won't wake the baby up!

Happy to recommend them!

:)

Had my 1 piece exhaust replaced earlier this year whilst the car was under warranty. The warranty has expired on my car now and the Cat is showing a problem. Contacted my dealer who says the warranty on the new exhaust expired with the warranty on my car! Surely this cannot be right. Any one out there with similar experiences?

I would have thought that the trade descriptions act wording of "goods should be of merchantable quality" would be appropraite in this instance. Providing the cat hasn't taken any whacks through grounding etc it should be replaced as it is clearly defective not even lasting a year.

Same problem. I got the "cat fault" messages about three times but they disappeared after the third or fourth time of starting and everything would return to normal. Last one about 8 months ago. My warranty was up at the end of November 2005 and I had a full service last week.
Ater only 32,000 miles - £700 for a new cat and exhaust pipe!
No help from Peugeot Customer-couldn't-care-less.

Is it time they admitted they have a problem?

A little bit of good news for the exhaust problems, Pug have finally started doing the repair pipe so you no longer have to buy the cat any more. It is still pricey but it is better than having to take out a second mortgage to replace the exhaust.

I had the same shock.Kwik fit fitted newexhaust for £400.Said they couldnt cut it as the replacement bit wouldnt fit.
However now my Kat light comes on when exterior temperature drops below 3 degrees C and tells me that there is a fault. Then as soon as the weather warms up...there is suddenly no problem any more.HMMMMMMMM :x

Hi all, I had the cat/pollution fault last year & thanks to this form got the sensors replaced under warrentee ... however just wanted to share latest problem ..... and a soluionr!

Exhaust started blowing last weekend so checked it in to ATS today - they told me they couldnt help as the part was dealer only. My wonderful partner did some ringing round, same story from other places so contacted a dealer .....

OMG the dealer told me I needed the front section & back box replacing = £1009.99!!!!!:censored:

Almost accepted a £6k valuation fron the dealer to take the car off my hands there and then.

How can Pug possibly get away with having the cat built in to a huge length of pipe?? For a tiny hole at one end they replace and dispose of a perfectly good cat - surely the environment groups would have something to say about this???

Anyway, I've done enough ranting on this topic verbally so I'll make this post useful, if you're in the Manchester areaI've found a guy who's a genuine diamond.

He's sorting out replacing a section and whilst he's not given me an exact price yet cause he's trying to get hold of his preferred bit - worse case senario is £350 all in!! Best case caourt £230/50. Hell of a difference from a grand!! Even sorted me out with a curtursey car whilst he sorts it all out. My Hero!!

I dont want to land him in any trouble for going against the grain so I wont post his details but of you're in the area and need a hero contact me and I'll pass on his details.

I am one happy lady tonight ... although I will be saying goodbye to my cc very very soon because between the cat/pollution fault, dying dials, blown inlet-manifold and appalling exhast design I have lost my faith in the reliability of Pugeot - once bitten twice shy and all that!! :?

I had mine done at a Pug dealer - they are not telling you the right story, the front pipe is no longer connected to the Cat, there is a repair section. If they deny it get them to speak to Marshalls of Newbury........top notch job they did on mine in just over an hour and they had the parts in stock. Total damage £488, less than half what your rip off merchants quoted and its all original.
