Hello,
My other half is wanting a 206CC as a treat for herself. Can people give me pointers on what to look for when I go and view them.
I don't want to be like any other tyre kicker that may visit them.
Is there any advice on maybe say the roof, the engine anything.
As if she buys a faulty car, pound to a penny it will be my fault.
Additionally does the cambelt get changed, as 1 of these has gone on my car, and I'm not getting bitten twice !!
Thans in advance
What do I look for when buying 2nd hand

After the problems that I had, I would not buy a 2nd hand 206CC without a full AA/RAC inspection. That's because I don't know much about cars mechanically to tell if anything is wrong.
Knowing what I sold, it's possible to buy a great looking 206CC which requires a lot of money to get it road worthy.

Roof leaks mainly affected earlier cars and are not so common now. It's just your luck really.
My 1st CC was a 51 plate and was rejected mainly due to the leaks. The replacement 02 plate leaked once in a blue moon and was only ever water lying in the seals and stopped when the water was away - it was the rest of the problems that were the problem
It's a great car to buy but just be aware of potential problems which is why I recommended an inspection. Problems with the car are just bad luck and you are more likely to get a good example than a bad.
Roof failure can be an issue although not very common even although magazine reviews tend to mention it often. Mines broke and wasn't fixed for 2 months but I would blame the dealer for breaking it in the 1st place although they denied it
I sold my car at the end of last year and if you had bought it then it would have taken over £3500 to put right which is again why I recommended an inspection.
Good luck if you do get a CC and remember that there's more chance of it being ok than faulty - at the end of the day very few if any cars are perfect these days.

I'm not sure about the cambelt.
There is a copy of the manual hosted by Lyndon on this site here http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/downloads/handbook.pdf
Best bet is to save it then browse through it as it is quicker.

I just bought a brand new cc from my local dealer & my roof leaked - so it's just the luck of the draw really!
That's it, fill him with confidence

Would an inspection notice or cover any leaks ?
They normally concentrate on the mechanical aspects.
If they did not pick up a car that leaked would they cover any costs ?
I dont know the answers, but an inspection would warn you of expensive exhaust, engine issues, lost, stolen or outstanding finance, but im not sure it would cover these other issues.
I suppose it just points to the old thing, check the small print of what the inspection covers and ask questions, (And get it in writing) cause if it does not cover these things then any inspection would not guarantee you the car would have no issues, and may not be such good value.
There is a wide range of quality of the second hand cars, i would agree with the advice to be VERY careful, my own CC has had lots of problems but all resolved under warranty, it still has a few niggles and rattles but nothing shocking other than worn tyres and needing a new clutch !!
The issues you have read in this forum do seem to be at least repeated if not common, but almost all can be fixed, either by persuasion under warranty, or by knowledgable people.... asking here seems to be a pretty good starting point....

That I could believeOurs never leaked (52 plate). Although we imported it from France -- maybe the factory kept the best ones for France and sent all the crap ones over here.

Hi,
I bought my cc used back in february (it's from april 2002)
I had absolutely no problems with it, other than the squeaky brakes
No leaks, no roof or window problems, no electric problems....
But after reading through the posts on the forum I'm convinced I was definitely lucky.
I must say it's a great car to have, my girlfriend thought it was a waste of money, she now loves it and talks about buying the 207cc when it comes out(or the new astra cc, we'll see)
So good luck if you do decide to buy it !!
