Antipollution Fault :-(

was such a nice day in Sydney today, so i gave my car a wash/wax/vacuum and then headed out with the roof down to enjoy the sunshine. ....................... but i only made it as far as the end of the driveway !!!!

the car was sitting idle on the kerbside and i could put the accelerator flat to the floor ............ but nothing was happening. then i got "Antipollution Fault" on the display.

soooooo, a tow truck had to be arranged and now the car is heading back to the dealer.

i am hoping its just a computer malfunction.

You should have called me first. I could have told you the car's computer will do that every now and then.

I've seen it twice on my car and on both occasions, all it needed was for it to sit in ACC mode for about 10 mins, then restart the car and go for a drive around the block. On both occasions, that did the trick.

Don't worry. You're not doing any damage to the car unless the STOP light comes on.

thats what Peugeot Assistance told me to do also ........ and it worked the first time. so i headed off, but only made it as far as James Ruse drive ... and the speedo was on 90 then 80,70,60 ... zero ! so i pulled over and let the car sit for a few minutes. all was ok again .... so i headed off ..... but only made it a further 50 metres down the road and it all happened again.

so after 3 times .... i guess calling for a tow truck was going to be the safest option.

even when the tow truck arrived after 45 minutes, the car would start up fine and idle ... but when i put my foot on the accelerator ..... nothing was happening.

OK, now that you mentioned about the 3 times that you tried the 'reset', I would have called for a tow truck as well.

Hope it's no major issue.

wooohooooooo .............. after 1.5 days, the car is fixed and ready to cruise the streets again

The problem was .......... "found permanent fault throttle potentiometer". Which was removed and replaced.

I guess in plain english, the computer controlling the throttle was the problem. My warranty period has expired, so i had to hand over a few $$.

Anyway its all fixed now and the

is back on my face.

And i also got them to fix up my squeaky brakes, finally.

I guess now we just all need to meet up and go for a drive !!!

Can you clarify what ACC mode is? My friend is having the same problem (Antipollution fault), but she is not sure what it means to put it into ACC mode.

ACC = Accesories Mode

Just insert your key in the ignition and turn once so all the electrics are started up ............ but not turning the key all the way to start the engine.

hi ive a peugeot 206cc 02 reg the STOP warning light has come on the dash ,ive checked oil & water there ok and the temp stays where it should it dont over-heat, any one know of such problems

Thanks for the interesting posts. I have a 2003 206 and started getting Antipollution faults then air bag and even a couple of Immobiliser fault warnings. I scanned the OBD port and got P00226 codes.
After reading here and other forums I thought I would have a look down the ignition system as it is pretty unlikely that I would get all those problems at once unless the ECU was faulty. I followed a British post about spark plugs and used a TDS (fast storage oscilloscope) to have a look about. There was a very fast spike on the DC (12V) supply lines, only tens of nano seconds but over a volt. This looked to be a bit too noisy, to me, and may interfere with the sensors. I disassembled the ignition block and removed the plugs. They alooked evenly coloured but were not the NKG park number perscribed. They were not Resistive types. I carefully scrubbed the coils stacks and insulation with a mild solvent (bathroom tile cleaner!) then cleaned the encapsulated top of the module very carefully, then the sides to remove any possible resistance tracking.

Assembled the module with a touch of dishwashing liquid on the plug insulating sleeves so the slid into the wells correctly. I also disassembled the plug stems and checked the springs were all OK and the same tension and length, I had a problem like this with my little cherokee PA28 plane. Fitted the correct plugs. Used a touch of lithium greese on all the screws as it went back together being careful to tighten the ignition module evenly till firm. Plugs were torqued up to 20 ft/lbs.

The problems stopped. Check with the TDS indicate the spike on the supply dropped to about 20 mV. I recon the coils were ringing due to some sort of impedance mismatch on their secondaries. Hope this is useful t somebody. Thanks for the initial information

Hey Guys,

I have a 52' Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi and im experiecing the same problems as mentioned above.

1) Anti-polution fault on screen
2) Engine is in LIMP mode, cant rev over 2k etc...
3) Car starts and cuts out randomly

And when MR2SLY took the car to the peugeot garage, they came up with an error: "found permanent fault throttle potentiometer".
They changed the part and it all worked fine.

The part costs £30, is it worth just buying it to see if it will solve my problems?

Well I suppose it is cheaper than getting your fault codes read. Is it worth a gamble for £30? Only you can judge that.

If it was me I'd try it. After all if it turned out not to be that you could always sell the new part on eBay to recoup some of your costs. If it does turn out to be the identical fault then you'll have solved it cheaply.
