Hi
Im new to this but logged onto this site yesterday to see some useful info. Ive got a 2.0 cc on a 52 plate (sept02) which was a French import Im the second owner.
I seem to have come across the dreaded catalytic converter/anti-pollution fault. Woke up yesterday morn as you know well chilly went to start the car and initially it wouldn’t start. Eventually started on third attempt but conked out and then got it started again, that when I got the catalytic converter/anti-pollution warning and the engine diagnostic light was on. Well didn’t have any choice had to drive it as my horse was hungry and needed mucking out! Any way drove it to the farm about 4 miles but did not have a lot of acceleration. I had visions of getting stuck and having to have the AA out but it started ok again after a couple of hours but the warning messages were still flashing and the engine diagnostic light stayed on but it drove ok.
This morning it started ok but the anti pollution message was there but not the cat one and the engine diagnostic light was on, drove it for a couple of miles and drove ok. Started it up to come home and everything was fine no messages and no engine lights!
Advice please from all you knowledgeable lot out there
PS anyone know any good Peugeot dealers in St Albans/Luton area?

Hi
Sounds like the same issue we had with our CC also imported from Belgium - but then they al come from the land of frog anyway!
We had ours checked at the dealers and they reset it and said everything was fine... but whilst they were at it decided to take Pug for a few warrenty pound notes by updating the cam followers and the dipstick oil level warning light, oh and reloaded the newest software which makes the headlamps function properly.... all very nice but apparently unneccesary!
It appears that the reason the car goes into freefall when it starts from cold and wet is that when the engine doesnt fire first go the Lambda sensor gets a whiff of neat petrol and says "arrrggh the catalytic converter is going to get ruined, I must tell someone" it then weakens the mixture (to protect the cat) and flashes up warnings, once the drama is over and the car has warmed up it seems to forget what has happened and reset itself!
Obviously if there was a fault with the fuelling then the lamda sensor would continue to get neat petrol dropped onto it (its in the exhaust manifold) and the car would continue to run rough and display warnings till it was fixed.
Obviously your 2 year imports warranty is up now so you cant neccesarily get the updated software etc done for free, although if you are having it serviced by pug you might be able to ask them nicely to check it for you while they are at it.... it costs them nothing to connect it and download the latest settings.
Happy new year

Thanks everyone for your help.
Have been know in the past to argue with main dealers when cars out of warranty and major things go wrong. Had a Puma in the past and the aircon was knackered they wanted a grand to replace it and I argued so much they did it for free in the end - any way I digress.
I have in fact got an RAC gold warranty with this car as when I was buying it I found out the pug warranty was just about to expire so made them put one of these on it instead.
Anyway does this sound like it may need the upstream lambda sensor replaced as some other people on here appear to have done?
Anyway Ill let you know how I get on

I bought a new 206 CC last Sept. I've had LOADS of problem with 'Anti-Pollution' and 'Braking' Faults.
One of my friends had noticed the car on Watchdog in December last year, this may help some of you:

I'm still fighting with my dealer for a new car and I've emailed Peugeot. I've had my car in the garage 5 times since I bought it!

Hi
This is my first time on the site and I wish I'd found it sooner!!
I have a 2.0 cc 52 plate imported from Belgium which has been into the garage with the usual leaking roof and doors not closing, which have been fixed.
However I have had at least 5 problems with:
a) the dials on the dashboard all going to zero as I drive along
b) the car has intermittently been hard to start. On these occasions once I've got over the first 4 miles or so then everything is ok and it might run fine for a month.
This morning it took 3 goes to start and the cat warning / antipollution fault came on after a couple of miles. I would be grateful for any help on fixing this as the garage never seems to be able to get to the bottom of it and cure it once and for all (so far have had new software and an alternator).
Thanks

Mine's a 2 litre se - suffering the dreaded anti-pollution / cat fault. Have had the car in a couple times - first time they changed the spark plugs, and it's currently in today being looked at again.
Car is now out of warranty, so would appreciate you letting me know what the solution to the problem is .
Cheers

the main cause of this fault we have found out is the hydrolic tappets.
the oil ways in them have been made to big causing them to drain qiuckly and fill very slowly. worst when starting from cold, mid warm. also makes the car hesitant and fluffy feeling when driving. this gives the apperance and symptom of a mifire(hence i originally changed loads of coils and plugs to try and solve this fault)
this lack of combustion and other related issues bring on the anti pollution light.
the peugeout (very good fix )is to fit the tappets from their 1.8 series.
these make the engine idle smoothly and feels more responsive.
most main dealers should know of this fix as it was in recent mastertec update files.
this only affects the 2.0 (rfn) engines
be warned we are also having probs with the coil pack on these cars to which give the same apperance, fault.
warranty vehicles we are fitting new coil packs and bosch spark plugs(as they give greater resistants to spiking signals to ecu.)
if this dosent wrx then its deffo new tappet time
