Ok then, here is the problem. I have a squeal coming from the engine bay every time I turn right, and on the odd occasion left. This only occurs when the car is moving or when there appears to be sufficient force back through the road wheels on to the power assisted steering. The car has been back to the garage twice now to have the problem looked at. First time they lubricated the steering, second time they changed the power assisted steering pump. Both of these have not solved the squeal. The only way I can describe the noise is like a belt slipping, but its odd that it happens every time I turn right and not left.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Like you I would have expected it to be a slipping belt, just like a fan belt slipping.
Could just be that on a right lock there is more load going through the pump due to the offset of the steering rack?? But thats just a guess!

Keep us posted on your dealers progress

I’ve had a chat with the garage today regarding this problem. They recommended I book the car back in and take one of the technicians for a road test pointing out the problems so he can see, feel and hear what the car is doing. They aren’t aware of any faults that would cause this, but to be fair to them, there trying. Well I’m certainly curious now as to why and what the fault is. I will keep you posted. Cars booked in next Friday, if it survives a trip to Southampton. :)
