got up this morning to a frozen car, got in switched on the engine then got out again to scrape the windows while the interior warms up done it loads of times :)

got back in to be greeted by a flashing engine diagnostics warning light ,switched off then back on hoping it was just a single fault but no it's still there blinking away, got a lift to work instead :)

in the manual it says it indicates a malfunction of the injection, ignition or emission control system, there is a risk of damage to your catalytic converter, contact your local peugeot dealer :(

my exhaust as been blowing for a good few weeks ,just after the cat where the local exhuast garage bodged a stainless steel pipe in place, could this be the cause or something more serious

help :)

Yep you need a new up stream lambda Lyndon.. Don't buy a Pug one.. Go to Eurocarparts and get a Universal one, preferably a BOSCH item.. for £35.00.. takes about 15 mins to fit..

I also used to get random misfires appearing on my CC, Changed the Down stream Lambda and the false readings dissapeared.. Again get a Universal one (Bosch)..

Now this is where I would recommend that Lamdba/O2 sensors are changed every 40k miles or so as they do degrade over time causing erratic readings/DTC codes and increased fuel consumption..

And yes misfiring engines will very very quickly destroy the CAT as you will be dumping unburnt fuel into it.. However it is pretty common for the non multiplexed 2.0 EW engined CC to suffer from "false" misfire detection..

Note: Just changed the Upstream sensor on my 172 and the fuel consumption and throttle response has noticably improved..

Now here is a bit of money saving info.. Buy an OBD cable from these guys HERE for £65.00 and you will be able to view the DTC's and clear the "K" light for free.. You will need to download the "Scantool" freeware from HERE
So why pay Peugeot to plug their diag tool in and charge a small fortune. When you can do it yourself..

Arrgghhh ....I just got the dreaded "Engine Diagnostic" warning light !!

It was sounding rough and then settled and shows all the symptoms described for a false alert !!

Even the exhaust is getting noisy after about 35000 miles...

Did anyone get the cable and software mentioned ?

I dont fancy paying Pug £50 to tell me the exhaust or Lamda valve is on the way out ! Looks like a bill either way....

Does anyone know if theres an alternative to the Peugeot exhaust replacement ?

I had the same thing a fortnight ago, didn't want to take it back to the dealer I have always used in the past (thanks to a disagreement which very nearly ending in a salesman with a fat lip......anyway I digress) so I phoned around and found anothe Pug dealer that did it the same day (another wanted me to wait 10 days) and charged me £37 including VAT.....pays to shop around (they also gave me a lift into town to do some shopping while they did it). A week later my car was back at the same dealer for it's 40,000 service which I got at a good price of £169 including a courtesy car, done in just over 4 hours and it was hoovered and washed. Big thumbs up to Caledonia in St Helens, they will be getting all further work on Jammy (thats the cars name cause she came from JamJar.......blame my ex for the name)

I have just had a similar prob with the Engine Diagnostic light coming on - took it to a Pug garage and although the light had gone off by the time they looked at it, it had stored a P300 code relating to a misfire. It apparently needs new cam followers and gasket, at £600+VAT! :(

From experience I would trust the entries above, Reap and Webcode know what they are talking about. If they haven't had to do cam followers for a P300 fault I wouldn't shell out £600+. I have had my CC for 3 1/2 years now and I have given information to dealers that has been posted on these forums so they can sort problems out, one time the dealer swore blind my request was impossible until I gave him a printout straight from the forums and asked "ok but could you try following this and confirm?", within 20 minutes it was "oh I never knew you could do that, where did you get this information from?"

Between all the owners on these forums we as a group have probably encountered just about every problem (Derek alone has contributed to that total drastically - his car had more faults than a "market leading web browser supplied by a monopolistic (allegedly) corporation" ), Reap and Webcode and a few other users I could mention would have mentioned it when they saw Lyndon's printout.

When i took mine in the light was still on.

It turned out to be an ignition fault and they changed the coil, plugs and HT leads, and i think the fuel injectors (?)

It now runs like it did when new :) , and i got a piece of paper staing all work carried out under warranty :D ...pretty impresive as its an import and ive had loads of problems getting warranty work done in the past....i also thought the waranty was out in Oct  (?).....better not mention that....
