As I went to cover the courtesy car on my own insurance this week (coz I've lost the paper bit of my driving licence)...they told me that you can only have so many permanent changes (ie. change of address/tel/car) and so many temp changes (courtesy cars) before they send it off to Head Office who may decide not to continue insuring me :o . And now I'm up to my limit until renewal.

Was a bit enraged about this and anyway, renewal comes up in 6 weeks and now I'm starting to shop around. All my temp and perm changes have been completely kocha..ok, so I've changed my car 3 times in a year..unheard of for me..but the back op and then the want of a convertible did it. Plus putting on the personal plate and then transferring it counted as well. The list goes on!

Anyone else had this with their insurer? And any recs for where to go? I think Liverpool Victoria are meant to be good, especially as I've had quite a few body mods now that I do want covered.

Advice appreciated :D

www.axamotor.co.uk were god and cheap with me. they cancelled my insurance when i lowered the car but allowed everything else.

i changed number plates, numerous courtesy cars for up to 5 weeks at a time due to rejecting a CC and had no probems.

They cancelled your insurance when you lowered it?

Did they refund the money?

i don't see what the problem is if you amend your policy!! After all they are paid for it! If they charge an admin fee then what's the problem??!!

it was their policy that their underwriters would not insure cars which were lowered. i got a full refund of the unexpired portion of the payment.

what i wasn't happy about was that without telling me they reduced my cover to third party with 7 days noticed. i only knew when i got the letter a few days later - that meant i had been driving around for 3 days on 3rd party inurance !

i argued about why they didn't insure lowered cars but they wouldn't back down :?

last time i got a phone call from them selling insurance - they were told to f*** o** and don't phone again - it worked :D

price wise they impressed me too. when i was getting a CC i was put off with the high cost of insurance - most reasonable quotes were £875 to £1000 at the time not counting the comical ones of £2000 etc..

i then tried axa and it was £597 and i had no problems at all until i lowered the car.

Thanx for the link. The best they've come up with is £618 so far. Do body mods push the insurance up hugely? I paid £455 for insurance last year.

I'll give axa a go next...!

This sort of thing is more and more common with insurance companys. The garage I work for have 3 courtesey cars that customers have to insure. Some insurers have "only 3 changes to a policy a year" some even have "Its £15 admin charge to change over cover for a day" etc. When I had to change my own car due to a Monkey visit, I argued with the admin charge and told them that I pay them to give me a service and that I would take my business to someone who actually served their customer, and they removed the charge.

I admit I've brought some of this on myself...after all, if I could find the paper part of my driving licence (its the classic 'put it somewhere so safe, can't damn find it!), the dealer would be insuring me at no cost to myself.

Visit to Post Office, form filling and £19 for a duplicate...can't do it on line coz I've only lost half of it..got the Photo ID bit still!

OK, perhaps I should tidy my home-office and do some filing
