My CC has just blown its engine after 2 yrs 3 months and a huge 11,300 miles on the clock. The rod went through the bottom of the engine.
Question -
Service was (first 6 months in December 02), when is the 2 yr or 20,000 mile service due??
Is it 2 years from car purchase date or 2 years from the first service date?
I have got the extra warranty for the extra 2 years from pug, but the service manager has told me that I was due a service in April 2004, that I have not had done (3 months over date). He says that my extra warranty will be invalid and pug will not repair the car under the extra warranty!!!
Not happy as you would expect that a car that has only done 11,300 miles has blown its engine.
Any views team?? I need help!!!
Thanks

Your cover is probably invalid, as you haven't stuck to the service intervals.
However, no engine should go pop in 11,000 miles. Push for a "goodwill gesture" repair. If no joy, threaten to go to Watchdog (is that still on?)

technically your warranty is invalid and u are unlikely to get anywhere with a dealer.
best bet would be to speak to monkey hq at coventry and explain that you mis-interpretated the servicing conditions and also emphasise the low mileage.
good luck

D,
Basicly correct. I though that it was 2 years from the 6 month service date. When I got my service warranty extended, pug reviewed my service book to get the warranty and did not inform me that I would need a service at the time of checking.
The actual manaul does not state that the 2 yr service is from the purchase date. It just says 2 yrs!! I have had this checked and it does seem very unclear. I have alos noticed that when they stamped my book after 6 months, they put next service in the book as cat A and at 20,000 miles. They did not put any date into the service book.

if it isn't clear then it helps your case. phone pug customer services and see what they say. be aware that you are likely to get a monkey who will try your patience to it's limit and you will feel the urge to put your fist down the phone
at this stage you will find out you are not getting anywhere so ask to speak to someone in charge of customer services.
you will be told that they are all busy but if you ask to get them to phone you - they will promise to do so in 48hrs - phone call normally comes after 47hrs and 59mins.
if they refuse to help which is a good possibility suggest that you will contact a publication such as auto express (do this if you have to through their watchdog section) as an engine should blow up at such low mileage even if outwith the service interval.
it may take a bit of fighting but i think you have a good case.
also look into taking legal advice of required.

also the fact that the dealer never put the date in the book helps you as you can say you presumed that it was 2 years from the service (6 months) or 20k miles,

It is 2 years from the date you take the car.
I had my first car seviced at 6 months (did not get a letter from the dealer, i think this is because it is a free service) and was told to bring the car back in 14 months for the 2 year service or 20k miles.
You are going to find it hard to get peugeot to do the work for free but i sure that there is a set number of miles that the car should do before an engine blowing up.
Find this out first then contact customer service and see what they have to say.
You could look at the sales of goods act i am sure there is a part in there that covers parts which have an expected life.

If the dealers say you was sent a letter then ask he or she to provide this letter from your file.I would have expected the Dealer to have sent you a reminder letter if your service was due too.
They can not refuse to do this as it is you right to see your file under the data protection act.

Did the display show the spanner which is the service interval indicator ?
This should have been set a the first service to remind you of the date / milage that the next service was due. If this was not done you could use this as extra ammo against the dealer .....
If you need a contact just PM me and i will give you a direct number at Peugeot tech centre Coventry, someone who can get things done.....
The other phrase is "not fit for purpose" but they will probably quote the service interval back at you......the manual does instruct you to look for the service indicator so it should be set....
Go for it and dont back down.....
Rob
11,500 miles is an oil and filter change...not a new engine....
