MR2 roadster is a good car, too.
Edit: I've just had a look at TF prices. Some of them are, er, "ambitious" to say the least (£22k for a top spec one). For that sort of money I'd be going for a TT or a second-hand Boxster, Elise or Honda S2000.
Bear in mind I only paid £21k for the TVR!

For that money, personally I'd get an MR2 Roadster:
1) Better driving dyamics
2) Looks "cute"
3) Less likely to go wrong
However, there's absolutely no space to put stuff in one. Have you considered an MX-5, or an Elise (can get a good Series 1 Elise for £12k, but it's a bit of a lifestyle choice as they're very small)?
Don't you have a CC at the moment? Ours may be up for sale in the next couple of months. Dec 01 52-reg (currently on a private plate) black CC SE with red/black leather and ally hoops. 19k miles, FSH.

Economy is overrated. It's a heavy car, and if you drive the 1.6 with your foot to the floor all the time you'll return crap MPG. I can get around 32mpg out of ours in "normal" driving, although my "lead foot" wife never seems to be able to achieve this

I test drove 3 MG TF's before I decided on the CC, each of the TF's were not pleasant to drive IMHO, all had stiff accelerator pedals and the interior was just plain awful with the control stalks straight out of an 80's metro. I now would much rather look at the MX5 as opposed to the TF as there are some very nice MX5's out there. But as above, if you got the money, go with the MR2.

A 911's design bothers me actually. Engine hanging out behind the rear wheels because that was Ferry Porsche's idea of automotive pornography. It's taken them 40 years to get the handling right!
The 911 "shape" may be an old design, but the car itself has been through many iterations. The current water-cooled 996s (and the new 997) aren't the same car as the mid 1980s 3.2 Carrera. Unlike the TF, which is just a facelifted MGF that they've taken the gas shocks off of.
