Totally depends on the ratio, BT offer something like 50 users to each broadband connection which can drastically affect the speeds (unless like me you are surfing at 02:30am). I have the 512Kb broadband from Telewest which has been upgraded to 700Kb free recently and it is plenty quick enough for the majority of users. If you are thinking about the 1Mb do check the ratio 50:1 is quite high, ideally you want 20:1 but you pay more for it.

They also do a 2mb for about Â£50 a month.
I bet you could download a film in about ten minutes with that speed.

Check out www.bogons.net

Not the cheapest, but they let you have a 20:1 contention ratio if it's available at your exchange for no extra cost.

I know the guy who runs it and he tends to let people run wahtever services they like. He's quite helpful, but the service is really for the educated user who doesn't want to have their hands tied behind their backs.

in texas, the hotel was 10meg connection and my mates house was a t1 line !

with aol at Â£29.99 per month. probably cheaper around but been with aol for over 7 years so prefer to stick with what i like and know best. 512k is Â£24.99 so it's only another Â£5 for twice the speed.

they are way in front like just about every other country in the world

in france ya can get 5mb for Â£20 per month

Norway gets 10mb for not much more than the french do, so we get the crappy end of the stick everytime

That explains why oftel or whatever they're called nowadays are hassling BT about the wholesale price of broadband.

Yet again we're ripped off, at least our roads are better and we don't pay tolls on them.

The goverment has just anounced it would like to see the M6 toll road extended 50 miles from Birmingham to Manchester. Absolutly no bloody use to me living in Yorkshire.

BT say they cant afford it just yet and we not get it til next yr,yet they got the ruddy money to keep putting adverts on the tellie.
