Anyone know of any good number plate makers.

Just bought me a reg from dvla, need it making up now.

Top man,

So when ordering from here, do i not need to show any proff that i own said registration plate?

Or do i just go to Dvla office with plate and certificate and then get them put on my car.

Its a little confusing

No proof needed for fancyplates, AFAIK (unless it's changed recently). Just need to send the forms off to the DVLA (actually your local VRO) and they'll either just send back the new V5 with the new number on it, or they'll ask for an inspection in which case you'll have to go there.

Once you get your cert from the DVLA Local Office (either in person or by post - I was in and out the local one in 10 mins - easy - as they give you a replacement tax disc there and then as well), you're meant to take the cert to a registered plate maker within 6 weeks - you could take it to a Motorists Centre, or your Pug dealer.

Have a look at the link on the dvlaregistrations.co.uk for the registered plate makers near you. They take the cert off of you and have to record how you pay for it, etc.

Laws have been tightened up - you can't even have the silver hex background anymore, but you can have the euro, uk, logos etc and a border.

When you get your stuff through from the dvla it does look complicated, but be assured its not!!

I think that how rigidly the rules are enforced is directly related to how cheeky you've been with the spacing and the fonts.

Yep - that's why they've bought the new laws in - to stop all the nice looking plates that the cameras can't catch either!!

Also, they've been quite clever here - if your cert doesn't get back to dvla to show you've assigned it to your vehicle through a registered plate maker, then they can claim the plate back, so as I understand it (could be wrong?) if you get it done elsewhere with the fancy lettering or spacing, plate maker won't take the cert off of you (or they get done) and then you can get done for having a plate that is no longer assigned to your vehicle according to dvla.

Does that make sense?! I know what I mean!

So theres no point in getting it from fancyplates.com then?

As the main reason from getting it from there was i could put my own message on the bottom of the plate.

Do they do thid at other places?

i've had me plate on for over a year, got them made up at a local sunday market, didn't ask for any paperwork so could i lose me plate ?

Got ours in Dec 2002 and had plates made up by fancyplates. Although thinking about it, I bought the plates and had the plates made up several months before getting the CC. No mention of having to get the certificate stamped or anything.

This is a fairly recent law - think it was Feb this year...anything before that and you're fine.

Anyone know of a plate maker that doesnt put there logo onto it (at bottom of plate), i just want my own text.
i dont mind paying extra for this.
Everyone i have spoken to in leicester puts there logo on

I got my plates made up at Halfords. Their logo is the same color as the backing so you cant see it during the day time and at night I think it might reflect in headlighs (not sure) but they look good cos no advertising on them.
