This evening my wife parked in our drive as normal and an hour later the neighbour knocked...the car had rolled off the drive and into his house.
Luckily no-one was injured.
The back-end of the car is smashed-up (superficial) and with ripples down the paintwork along the off-side of the car.
The car was new on Dec 22, 2003.
Just may help help any other 206cc users...
ALWAYS LEAVE IT IN GEAR - Like I told my wife last weekend...
I will take some sad piccies in daylight and post them tomorrow.
I have read some posts about the handbrake and brakes cooling, thus reducing the holding power over time - RUBBISH. In 1964 this was a good excuse. But car manufacturers resolved this minor technicality, many years ago.
Q.How many cars have you ever seen with a handbrake on for an hour then suddenly roll-away? None - except the 206!
The car design is OK - somewhat lacking in sense when it came to the roof - why oh why did no-one put rain gutters on the roof?
Why is the roof skin made of the layers of spamspam foil? Lightweight or just easily dented (ergo replaced, $$$).

i've heard of this happening before - but not with a 206 or even a peugeot.
also wouldn't expect the roof to be made of solid steel when it's meant to go up and down

This same thing happened to about a year ago and I posted it on this forum. I drove to Kent from Berkshire and left it on a slight hill outside my boyfriends mum and dads house and about 45 minutes later a neighbour knocked on the door to say that my car had just rolled down the hill... and the handbreak was on. It very nearly missed a lamp post, scratched all down the side of my boyfriends dad's police car, and then finally hit a mental fence at the bottom of the hill, on the metal post of the fence and I needed a new right wing and a bit of spray work done.
Peugeot said my handbreak was very loose, but even though my car was only a few months old, told me it was general wear and tear and they would tighten the handbreak but not take responsibility for any damaged it had caused rolling down the hill.
A mechanic friend of mine told me that sometimes after very long journeys something like the cable heats up and then when you stop, the cable cools and loosens off so this is why is happens... although I've never trusted my handbreak since.
