Hiya!

Does anyone know anything about Ford Pumas - specifically the 1.7l engine. Are they any good?

Yes really good cars.

I have just swapped my 1.7 Puma for a 1.6cc.

I love the cc but the Puma is more of a drivers car. There are a lot of quicker cars but the Puma is fantastic on country roads.

I sometimes miss the Puma but as I've only had the cc a few months and it's been the weather for it, I'm lovin' it.

Go on the Pumapeople website. They are a nice bunch and they will tell you all about the Puma.

Great! Thanks.

I dont wanna change my CC but the kids are moaning about getting in the back of it

So if I HAVE to change it (and it would break my heart to do it) then I want something a bit bigger and that has a bit of the `WOW' factor that my CC has.

Have looked at a 2000 1.7 Puma in silver with 20k on the clock - £8,300.

Need to do a lot of thinking.....

I had the 1.7i Puma too - fantastic. Had mine from new and the only reason I gave it up was because of a back operation, otherwise I'd still have it now. It is a harder ride than the cc and you do feel the bumps!

It is a real driver's car as Bif says - grips the road like nothing else I've ever owned and the engine is beautifully sweet and free revving - much faster take off than the cc. Build quality is good and I didn't have any niggles at all.

Yeah, there's a tad bit more room in the back - managed to get my Dad in there!!

Highly recommended!! I miss mine, but the topless cc'ing makes up for it. :D

this forum is like the x puma forum, I also used 2 have one ;) (till a kind lady wrote it off on the motorway!) They are good and handle well...id say the 2.0cc is about the same speed as the 1.7 puma but obviously the 2.0 has a lil more torque on hills. Go for a puma with the leather and all the extras like a puma black or millenium. V nice. Love the cc though, only had a month and its great fun! Id say the ride is harder in the CC than the puma though.

Thanks everyone who replied......

I went and tested the Puma. It was ok....but boy did it feel `closed in' and it was a beautiful sunny morning and I saw a topless CC whizz by and thought nope, the Puma just doesn't get there. I felt kind of `anonymous' in it - even the salesman in the back commented on the CC and kept referring to the Puma as `just a Ford'!!! I think in an effort to make me see how easy it would be for maintenance/insurance etc but it actually worked the other way!! Got back to the garage, saw my shiney blue CC there and thought `Yeah...its just a Ford' :|

So the kids will have to live with it.....that or I part-ex them ;)

Or does anyone know of a company that make trailers to fit CCs?

Hi I also owned a Ford Puma which I loved and then when I traded it in for the cc I couldn't believe how bad the acceleration was on the cc but liked the roofless driving.Rob whose also on here sometime will advise you if ya need more advise as he has a Ford Racing Puma.

I had a 1.7 Puma as well, up till New Year when a lorry driver wrote it and very nearly me off on the M25 !!!!!!

I would've definitely bought another one of them if they hadn't stopped making them - I loved it, probably the best car I ever owned but I'd always wanted a CC so suppose I'm happy now I have one but I miss my Puma !!!!

Before getting my Silver CC in December 2002 I was looking at Puma's too. The Puma is a great drivers car and I hope ford will come up with a replacement one day but it in the end when the summers here the 206cc with its folding roof beats it as you have the best of best worlds. A good looking convertible/coupe for summer and winter.

:)

Long live the CC!

I hear the Focus is going convertible...not sure when...probably won't be a patch on the Puma looks though.

Never actually OWNED a ford, but the last two work cars have been Fords and thats enough to put me off EVER owning one :? The ford brand name generally says "underpowered, none too reliable but cheap" to me.

Never driven a puma but i find it difficult to beleive it outshines the rest of the company's cars SO much?!? might take one for a burn sometime just for the hell of it since lots of people on here seem to like em.

Surely a Vauxhall tigra is a better bet? if they do one with a similar engine size its bound to have better performance and its better looking than the puma (apart from that vauxhall badge that spoils it, of course)

And stick a handle on it and the Tigra kind of looks like a hairdrier :(

Have a drive of a 1.7 (or a Black Thunder if you can find one) - it really is streets apart from all the other Fords.

Oh, and just for good measure, Mr Clarkson, Top Gear and What Car? rated it top drawer.....
