Hands free car kit / GPS

I am going to get a handsfree car kit put in my CC as soon as possible after I get it - am going to go for a "no damage" kit, so the dash / body is not drilled. This probably means they will have to stick the aerial on the inside of the windscreen.

Does anyone know if the "heat reflecting" material in the windscreen is likely to interfere with / affect mobile phone signals? (Or GPS signals, as I will almost certainly add GPS too.)

I have no probs with the phone in the current 206 GTI [with heat reflecting windscreen too], but am using the mobile with a personal handsfree earpiece+mic lead, so the aerial on the phone is well away from the windscreen.

Any information gratefully recieved.

I have my GPS receiver in the bottom right hand side of the windscreen and it seems to work perfectly.

I found with a hand-held GPS and a windscreen sucker mount it was hopeless. The side windows are better but you get a more restricted view of the horizon, receive less satellites, and the position is less accurate and drops out. I tried to mount an external antenna in the housing under the rain sensor but space is tight in there

The pug place for the GPS antenna is between the two rear seats above the cup-holder, facing out of the rear screen. There is a spare part code for the bracket but iti looks as though it sits in a prominent place above the trim rather than them being half sensible and leaving a gap in the chassis so it could sit under the plastic trim. I've settled on it there for the meantime, wedged between there and the windstop, works very well there. When I get time and enthusiasm up I'll find a place to put it permanently and run the table back. The pug drawing shows a connection into the wiring loom which comes out behind the radio; it remains to be seen if this is a straight-through coaxial connection or some sort of mux jiggery-pokery.

OK OK I will admit it I was talking pants. I have given up on that idea and it now sits near the back seats looking out of the back window and I get a much better reception.

I know a few people here use the TomTom wireless Bluetooth GPS reciever, so a quick question (as I cannot find the answer easily elsewhere!)

Can the TomTom Bluetooth GPS unit be run off car-power, i.e. fron the fag lighter, or can it only be run off battery power? The only info I have found thus far suggests it cannot be run off the "car power" as they only supply a cable for recharging the thing.

Any info gratefully recieved.
