well if you asked just a few days earlier, maybe you could have bought it off an ex-owner in Melb. It has been sold now.

How did you pay? None of the Germans selling hoops or lenses do paypal or similar, they all want bank transfers. My bank want a fortune to convert money or do credits in this way

That's pretty standard from my experience too. You need to factor the bank transfer fees (sometimes on both sides - ie: your bank fees to send the money + their bank fees to receive the money) as well as freight into your cost.

It doesn't always work out so cheap when you add it all up. :-(

I emailed one of the German chaps last week and he got back to me saying he did not export to UK as we are more trouble than we are worth!!

The German guy that I bought mine off did accept PayPal. The thing with buying from people in Germany is it does take a long time to get to you via surface mail and that's still not cheap.

Looking at this auction, they're only asking for AU$95, so even with bank charges and postage, it's still should be cheaper than the AU$200 or so that I paid.
