Alarm question

Transcript from when I bought the car recently (Y reg):

Me: Does it have an alarm?
Salesman: It has an alarmimmobiliser
Me: So is it just an immobiliser or an alarm?
Salesman: No it has an alarmimmobiliser
Me: (sigh) What's that button on teh dash?
Salesman: Dunno, I'll have to go and ask
...

Salesman: It's to turn the alarm off if the roof's down.

So ...... Help please.

Do you think I have an alarm or what? I have what look like 2 interior sensors in the corners above the windscreen.

But should the indicators flash when it goes off?

A mystery car nearby has an alarm that blasts the horn every now and again and at 5am today it sounded suspiciously as if it was coming from my driveway!!! But no indicators flashing so I've always assumed it's not mine but maybe it is.

What do you think?

And can I turn it off completely?!

Good question, what does the button on the dash actually do?

As far as I know when you press the 'lock' button on the key fob, it locks the doors, turns the alram on and immobilises the engine. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

I've only just found out that if you press it again deadlocks it.
Only been half-locking the car for nearly a year!

All CCs have an alarm AND an immobiliser. Pressing the button on the keyfob once locks the doors, AND deadlocks the doors as well as activates the immobiliser and the alarm system.

Charlie: Pressing the button twice actually removes the deadlocks (my dealer told me wrong here as well), so only ever press it once! You can check this by winding the window down before locking then trying to open the door from the inside by pulling up the locking pin.

As for the buttons inside the car, the one on top of the dash simply locks the doors. The one on the right hand side by the steering wheel, when pressed after taking the key out of the ignition, turns off the interior ultrasonic sensors but still leaves the immobiliser running and the alrm sensors on the doors/boot/bonnet.

I think that when the roof is down the ultrasonic alarm is turned off anyway.

i think loz is refering to the button next to the steering column, left side. and the sales man is right, its for switching off ultra sonics when the roof is down.

The car it self comes with an alarm and imoboliser as standard.

The red light will continue flashing (faster than normal) when you unlock the car if the alarm has gone off

I guess I'll have to wait till the alarm next goes off to check whether the red light flashes etc. Too late for this occasion.

Can you confirm whether the indicators are supposed to flash or not, though?

My car doesn't have the ultrasound disabling button?!?!?!?!?
HELP!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know why this might be and does this just mean i can't disable the ultrasound?

The ultrasound button was only included in the multiplex models I think - I guess yours isn't multiplex?

I've got a feeling it can still be disabled, but you'd have to check your manual for how (something to do with turning the ignition key ijn the barrel a few times IIRC)

The button to disable the ultrasonics is fitted to NON multiplexed cars as well.. It is in the button nearest the steeing column on the right hand side of the dash..

The Immobiliser is Passive arming and is not Activated/deactivated from pressing any of the buttons on the keyfob..
There is a Chip in the keyfob that is coded to the immobiliser ..
Round the ignition barrel is an inductive loop antenna that energises the chip and then reads the code, therefore disabiling the immobiliser and allowing the car to be started.

I noticed recently that the light that is positioned between the lock and hazard switches (multiplex models like mine) only tends to work intermittently I find that the connection that runs from Alarm system to LED may fail. I noticed it when I parked with roof down and locked car I pushed the disable button for the Ultrasonic sensors but it says in the manual that the light inbetween the the interior lock and the hazard warning switch should illuminate but unless you push down on the switch assembly the light won't come on. been to my dealer who tightened it but still plays up. Has anyone else had this

I wish my manual had ANY reference to ANY security features.

It's bloody ridiculous. Should an owner really have to consult a bloody forum to find out how ther car works, when the salesmen don't even know.

???
