Hello All,
I am new to this forum, what is the deal with the 206cc squeaky brakes? I have just had my 20k service and my brakes have been squealing for around 2 months. The peugeot garage said my brake pads do not need changing as there is not too much wear but if I wanted to erradicate the squeak then Id have to pay for new ones!!

What is the official score with Peugeot on this as I know a hell of a lot of CCs have this problem with the factory fitted brake pads??

I appreciate your help!!

I have had squeaky brake problems on my GTi since almost day 1. The dealer evern went as far as to say "the brakes are supposed to squeak" - only when I asked them to confirm this in writing did they back down and have the car in to clean the brake pads under warranty.

Within 2 months of them having the car in, the brakes started screeching again. My car is an 02 GTi, built in France (where the CC is made).

Hopefully the 04 CC I'm getting will not have this problem.

As far as I understand it the Squeaker brake pads cause too much build up of brake dust which causes the squeaking.

There are many forum contributors who have had their brake pads replaced with non-squeakers under warranty.

My dealer did the front ones under warranty but won't do the rear ones. ...yet!

Allegedly, all new cars come with the non-squeakers fitted.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

What are you classing as 'new cars'? From when?

Well my 03 plate had squeakers from new.
I found out from this forum at the end of last summer that non-squeakers were available under warranty as new cars were coming with them fitted.

So new ones now will allegedly have non squeakers.

Sorry, can't be more accurate than that. The post on this forum might have specified a date...

Many Thanks for the feedback people!!
I have just been told that warranty for brakes comes under 6k miles, as they are classed as consumables. Has anyone got their pads changed over 6k of wear??

Cheers

my pads were changed under warranty after around 18 months and 14K miles. Said it was a known fault and replaced them with a all new anti squeak pad.

Try doing a search on the forum and this has been discussed before, i think even the part number is available

Bought my car from Peugeot dealer on 31st July 03.

The brakes started sqeeking after a couple of thousand miles.
Took the car in for check up service at the end of January and complained about brakes. At first they said there was nothing they could do, so I said that I had read about a lot of people on this forum who had complained that Peugeot had revised the brake pads, and would change them under warranty.
The service lady then typed in the computer that customer had requested new brake pads under warranty.
After the car had been in for the work doing they informed me that Peugeot had revised the brake callipers, and these had been changed under warranty.

So far so good as no sqeeks yet.

OK It seems that only some dealers may change the brake pads free under warranty. Which garages do we know do??
Any in Glos/ Oxfordshire??

Do you think i should call around to see who will???? :|

Right. I've just booked my 20k service for the week after next through Virgin Cars. They asked if there were any problems & I said squeaky brakes. I said that apparently Pug have redesigned the calipers and the guy immediately said "That's right." So I told him that I want it sorting this time and not to be fobbed off by Pug as I have been previously. Let's see what happens, eh?

I have just been told by Peugeot Head Office that they will only replace squeaking brakes on a car 6 months old or 6,000 miles. Mine is 16 months old with 12,000 miles on the clock. They have refused to do anything about it.
When I pointed out that I knew of this problem being sorted on cars older than 6 months/6,000 miles they said that they couldn't comment on that!!!!
I asked that if I produced written evidence that this was the case would they reconsider? They said I could always try!!! All of the other usual arguements cut no ice with Peugeot HQ!!!!
I now want to know if those of you who have posted about this matter would be willing to email me with:-
1. How you managed to get Peugeot to change their minds and your brakes ?
2. If you will give me permission to use the emails to back up what I said about the 6 month/6,00 miles being a load of cr*p?

I am a blonde too........but far from dumb..... :D

Can I suggest you aim for a compromise with your dealer? You _have_ had 12k miles worth of stopping power from your pads, they're ... what ... anywhere between half and quater way through their useful stopping life - maybe you'd get some joy out of them by suggesting you pay for the pads, they fit them for free ... just a thought.

I was going to go for this approach on my wife's pug but happily the loggest complaint way back in the mists of time (just after we picked the car up) caused them to apply the 6,000 mile rule to THAT mileage rather than the current (18,000) one - i do have a nice dealership tho - Pug Chesham near Aylesbury. They fitted the new pads (and knew what they were talking about regarding new non-squeakers vs originals) and we've been fine so far (rushes to find something wooden!)
