Do any of you risk putting your CC through an automatic carwash? If so [and as long as you have not got one of the leaky roofs] does the water stay on the outside?

I confess I am a bit idle and use carwashes - normally one where they pre-wash with a high pressure jet-wash beforehand. Would any of you reccommend this with a CC, or do I need to go and buy a bucket & sponge?

it has been discussed b4 about the pro's/con's of a carwash, i have NEVER taken my CC through a car wash after what i have seen done to friends cars after many trips through the car wash, such as - swirly paint scratches where the brushes have moved over the car,the thin silver stick on stripes on the bonnet have faded badly, so god knows how the paint stands upto it

do it by hand and/or a jetwash them shammie it off, job done :D

I never took my CC, 306 or 206 through a carwash. However, near my house is one of those hand car wash places - you give them £5 and then drive through the various stages where they rinse, wash, dry your car etc.

Always been impressed with them and do a much better job than an auto wash.

My Dad bought a new Seat Leon recently. The garage told him to use Johnson's Baby Lotion to wash it with as it's much better than the car wash liquid you get!!!

i know it's probably not the best thing to do but i use the carwash and have the wax too, and take a damp chamoix leather down with me to finish it off.... that way it takes me 30mins tops to do my car rather than over an hour!! - i have to do the alloys myself as the brushes usually miss that!

I use to take my car to the automatic carwash quite regularly and never had a problem with it whatsoever. I prefer to hand wash it now though due to reading the comments posted by other cc owners

I have never taken my CC through a carwash - I had a dark blue car before and after a while you could really notice the swirls in the paintwork - looked awful close up! We invested in a jetwash thingy and I just clean it once a week with that, a bucket, sponge and "a proprietory car shampoo" and then wipe over with a chamois! It does take at least an hour but then you can justify a Crunchie with your coffee afterwards :)

MattB - did you really mean baby lotion or baby shampoo? ? :?

I suppose baby lotion would make it smell nice and give a lovely soft sheen! I do love my car - but not that much!
Soooooooo, did your Dad try it???
