At the start of January, i booked my car in with a guy for the 9th of Feb to have some work down on the CC (front badge removed with door handles and locks taken off and smoothed with buttons on the mirrors to open the doors). I took it in on the Monday morning and told him I would need the car back on the Saturday as I was back at work the following monday and my work is an 80 miles round trip. I asked if this would be a problem and, if it was, just to carry out certain tasks and I'd get the rest done at a later time. he said it would be ok.
It gets to the Thursday and I phone him. It won't be ready for the Saturday and I can't take it as he's already taken the badge and handles off and wasn't in a driveable condition. He said it would be ready the following Wednesday. Fortunately, my mum was in Scotland all this week so I could use her CC. i told him as that was the case, he should hold the car to work on it until Saturday giving him a bit of extra time. Luvvly jubbly.
So, on Wednesday, i phone him to make sure all is ok. Yes he says, should be on schedule for Saturday. Then I ask him where on the mirrors he has put the buttons. Turns out he has come up with a fancy way of avoiding buttons. A mechanism where you click the plip and as it unlocks the car, the driver door pops open a bit. The passenger door has to be opened from the inside. this sounds fancy but is no good if someone parks so close I can't get in the drivers door plus, if something happens to me in the car, such as pass out, and can't let myself out, how does anyone help? So, i obviously did not like that and said I wanted the buttons and to forget it. he says its going to take until next Wednesday (this wednesday coming) before its ready.
Now, its gone for a week but its turned into 2 and a half weeks. because my mum is back and needs her car, i have had to hire a car for 6 days to the cost of £200. I told him i would have to hire a car but it still couldn't be ready. Now, how do I go about getting a shedload of discount on the work? Its costing me £800 with him (also having colour coding and 2 stone chip repairs done) and £200 for the car (more if it takes him longer to do the job as I'll have to hold the hire car). thats £1000.
I feel it is his fault its longer I;'m without a car as he decided to not do what i asked. this week was acceptable (though still poor on his part) as I had transport but to roll it o another week so I have to hire a car i find ridiculous. i realise its complicated work but if he had done what I asked in the first place, i would have had it back today.
So, can anyone suggest how I go about recouping some of my losses from him when I eventually pick up my motor?
Thanks in advance and again, sorry for waffling
