Hi All,

I'm planning on adding an amp to my standard system tomorrow and am wondering if there is anything I need to think about in terms of the anti theft security coding.

Will it be activated if I power off the stereo ?

Has anybody got any advice for me ? Everything and anything you have to say will be helpful. I'm a novice at playing with these cars and multiplex...

Cheers,
Michael

Hi,

You'll need to check with your insurance company about whether your kit will be insured. Most companies insure ICE up to a maximum amount, and I guess you'll need to keep receipts etc as proof that the amp exists.

Are you adding an amp for a sub or for the front and/or back speakers? What headunit do you have at the moment? Have you replaced any of your standard speakers yet?

Basically, the standard fit speakers won't cope with having much more power blasted down them from an amplifier so you'll need to replace them with something that'll take more hammering.

Also, the standard Clarion headunit doesn't have a line out so you will need to take the input for the amp from the speaker outputs and make sure that your amp can deal with this, or buy an impedance doowacky to convert the high level output of the headunit to a low level input for the amp. Then of course you need to run the power wires (make sure they're thick) and speaker wires etc.

Most new headunits have remote power output - this is a low power 12v line that will signal to your amp to turn on/off. However, I don't think the Clarion has this (I may be wrong) so you'll have to take the ignition power from somewhere else.
