I was in the Peugeot dealership 3 days ago and they informed me of the same, a 180BHP 206 with a top speed of 150MPH, sounds mental - he also mentioned a 206 Estate with the same BHP, errrr..... why ?!! I am not quite sure where he got his figures from....even if correct, I am not sure I'd be happy travelling at those kind of speeds in such a small car.

There will be a new model 206..
Believed to be badged 206PS (Peugeot Sport) & currently codenamed the "T12"
The current position is this:
Peugeot have 4 prototype cars currently being tested at Ryton (Coventry). The car will use a Lotus tuned 2.0L engine producing 187bhp..
But they are currently having problems keeping the engine temperatures stable due to the lack of under bonnet space.. A workaround to include under arch radiators is being investigated..
This engine is NOT the XU10J4RS unit from the GTi-6 because that engine is very "dirty" and would fail new emmisions regulations, that is one of the reasons it did not end up in the existing 206GTi..
The vehicle might be available during the Summer/Autumn of 2002....
The 206 estate (206SW) that was shown at Frankfurt Motor Show this year, did indeed have a 180bhp low pressure Turbo engine fitted, but peugeot have officially stated that it will NOT reach production with this engine. However a 206 Estate will be available in 2003, no more details available

Being honest though this new pug, if it made it into a 180 bhp CC version, would cost a lot. I'd probably prefer a Lotus Elise, my all time favourite car (but they won't insure any one under the age of 21 as i'd have one now). I think the CC is a great car at the moment as it's not to costly and it fits into its own niche in the market. If it was to cost a few grand more, like it would, then it would be competing against some big guns. Mind you there are those around who would only ever want a Pug - so fair enough.
