Hello and Merry Christmas to you all!
I'm hoping one of you techie types or one of you gaming types might be able to assist me...

A friend at work noticed his home PC was running very slowly and when checking his system status he noticed that from startup about 200MB of his 256MB was constantly in use.
I checked mine and it's the same. I still have 300MB or so left over but he's a bit stuffed with only 50 or so.
I've looked on Task manager- what are all those programs that seem to be nicking the RAM, do they need to be running and what can I do about it?

This is serious stuff people, I need that RAM to do some gaming over my hols!
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

If your running Windows XP that will be the reason as with a few constantly running programs installed it will eat into 256mb quite easily, i'd say buy yourself some more RAM as its super cheap at the moment depending on what you want,
Hope that helps

Yeah, I thought that might be the answer!
There are a few things running on the taskbar...

Gaming shouldn't suffer too much as XP will give up some resources as when a games starts up windows should go into a sort of sleep mode allowing its resources to by used
