40K service and non-warranty parts!

Sorry for what could be a such a newbie question, i know what it is like on the other forums to answer the same old questions!

However, the issue.

We have one of the first CC to come in to the country, registered March 2001 on a Y plate.

It has just been in to the dealer for it 40K service and we have been told that it needs just under Â£1000 spent on it, Over Â£600 of which are not covered by warrenty

Brake pads and brake fluid I can understand (although Â£180 for fronts and rears and Â£60 for the fluid, fitted is very steep), New front disks I can just about understand (another Â£100 fitted).

But new front shock absorbers at Â£278.00!!

Has anyone else had to get them replaced at 40K, if so was it did you have to cough up for it as well.

Just a bit of a shock for a car that we have had from brand new, is a bit or a kudos brand for peug and is still 4 months off it 3rd brithday.

Any help of pointers?

Brake pads are Â£30 from Halfords.

Have a look at www.eurocarparts.co.uk see what stuff really costs.

Discs are less than Â£30 each.

Dampers are Â£70 a pair!

It's times like that make me glad i am handy with the spanners myself!!
Changing any of these things is easy. They are simple nut and bolt jobs. Only special tools needed will be spring compressors for the dampers!

That's what is annoying, I know the price of the parts and they would have had the wheels off as part of the service!

So why charge so much for fitting new pads and disks.

As the car is so close to the end of its 3 year warrenty it will go to a good local mechanic who fitted greenstuff pads i supplied to all four corners of my VX220 and put 5.1 fluid in for Â£90!

Going to ring him tomorrow and see if it would be the same for the CC.

Are there greenstuff pads available for the CC and what are they like?

i got greenstuff in the front, changed them because they were squeaking and peugeot wouldnt do it under warranty asking me for Â£100 for new ones. i spent Â£60 fitted so they can bugger off with teir extortionate prices.....pads are good.. although they squeak a little bit, which makes me wonder now....anyway muuuuch less than the original ones

This dealer has gone seriously down hill since we bought the CC and I had my 306 GTI6.

I've got the invoice in front of me and there is no mention of the leaking shock, no list of the warrenty work carried out and more worrying is the fact that they managed to measure 7mm of tread on the spare tyre

!!!

Did they service the right car?

Will certainly be thinking twice before they get used again. They used to be so good, especially when the cambelt went on the 306 500mile before it was due to be changed, they split the Â£3000 bill 50/50 between me and them.

We collect the little pug from a local mechanic this morning, only thing that needed doing was the brake fluid!

Rear pads good for another 10,000miles

Fronts good for another 6 - 10,000 miles

Shock leak is so small it will pass the MOT in March.

Total cost Â£20.00!

He had previously quoted us for all the parts and work we thought we needed.

Â£160 New pads all round, new front disks and brake fluid. Non pug parts but at almost 1/2 the main dealer price who cares.

Â£210 for Pug front shocks, Dealer wants over Â£300!

Guess where we will be going from now on.

That is so scary that they get away with it my family have there own garage, I could get a new warrant and the work done of a quarter of the price quoted by Peugeot I too am coming up to the 40k service, it's something to consider before I pay for an rip off service

The non Pug parts will probably be better than the originals! Esp the dampers!
My GTi has just done 20k miles and the front dampers are leaking very slightly.
Wonder how much they need to be leaking to fail the MOT?

If they need replacing, and Peugeot insist they're not covered by the warranty (write to head office & check this) then get decent ones fitted cheaper elsewhere. The only reason to let Pug do them is for the warranty, and if they're not covered then there's no reason.
