Has this damaged my car?

Getting out of my car thisd morning and didn't wait for the seatbelt to retract before I slammed the door shut.

It made a really wierd sound and it turns out the metal thing was between the door and the car!

You ever done this? Have I damaged anything?

Used to do it all the time with the Subaru. Ended up with a couple of gouges in the paint on the inside bit of the doorframe, but nothing worse.
