well quick word about the mazda ............ nice car, great performance but would cost a bit for accessories to make it look a bit better. very tight inside, not much room. i'm really undecided, i did like it but i never saw it or drove it and thought great car i want one.

on the way home i thought i would drop in at a renault garage to have a look at the Megane CC. saw the car in the showroom. three salesmen chatting round the car suddenly buggered off - some service  had a good look at the car and the cheap looking cloth interior. i need to be blunt and say this car has nothing going for it at all. styling is very boring, interior as far as seating goes looks cheap and as someone else said, there's very little room in the back.

if i liked it a bit i was gonna ask for a test drive - but i walked straight out.

then to cap it off, some guy had parked a ford ka courtesy car next to me but a bit close and left his ageing tart of a wife in the passenger seat. i hit their car getting into mine with the door as it was unavoidable - she suddenly looked round and i told her if you park as close you, you are gonna get hit. she said some pish about being extra careful as it was a courtesy car - i said they need to learn to park - called her a silly tart and drove off (after she tried to be smart by telling me to smile) :D

I know the Mazda accessories are a ridiculous price, but hopefully it won’t take long for third party bits to come on the market. There’s so much available for the MX-5 now.
I didn’t feel cramped inside, but then I am rather short, and I still haven’t driven one yet.
How was the overall driving experience compared to the 307CC?

it's hard to compare the two cars as they are so different. the 307CC has a lot more room. i think the rx-8 looks tight for space as the dashboard is quite short where the 307CC is the opposite.

i did like the mazda but it's nowhere near as good as i thought it might be.

driven an rx8 today, 230hp version. (note I drove a 350Z import already).
I have to say that as far as torque and responsiveness, the rx8 is more than competent. Floored it up to 120mph in 5th on the motorway and there was always acceleration on the tap.... I was impressed, favourably. The controls are not of my liking with only the analogue rev counter and the digital tacho, with white dialsand black background... not too nice. Lovely sat nav in the centre console(extra @ £1200 OUCH), driving position very nice and have to say lots of peple turned to look @ the car. it was three of us in the car and the sales rep was nice and comfy in the back, and so was my girlfriend when I asked her to go check how comfy it was in the back. So as far as performance is concerned, I am more than satisfied, the only bad point is...... THE ENGINE NOTE! It's very quiet even when revved up to 7-8000 (which I have done) but at high speed it sort of "whines" which doesnt sound like a very "manly" car...... no wonder..... no pistons in the engine! The salesman, when asked about the unusual suggestion by Mazda itself to check the engine oil every 2 full tanks of fuel, said "it's normal"... suspicious. Again those plasticky bits on the outside didn't impress me today either, and same for the rear and front bumpers.... to make them look nice you'd have to buy accessories for which I forgot to ask for the brochures, but I suspect very expensive.

All in all I have to say 4 seats a bonus, engine note weak, nice lines apart from the plasticky bits (which can be made nice with accessories but more £££), good performance!

But still, I'd rather have a Z...... :P

i asked about that thing with the oil and they repeated the every 2nd tankful thing. he also said that along with the CC style puncture repair kit you also get a 1L bottle of oil in the boot - he said it uses about 1L every 1000 miles

i would probably get one but as you mentioned about the performance - i would be heading for a ban for speeding

It is. You should actually check it every journey ;)

As long as they're not suggesting you need to top it up every 2 tankfuls...

I saw yesterday (at Helsinki MotorShow) 307CC, MeganeCC, Nissan 350Z and Chrysler Crossfire.
Peugeot was nice (but not so "miraculous"). Megane was better than i would imagine (wasn't able to see cockpit). Nissan was fantastic (but my girlfriend didn't like it, she thinks it's too like Porsche...) Crossfire was outstanding ;)
I'm thinking now between 350Z and 307CC (350Z come here in Finland in next may). So i have time to convince my girlfriend... (my car has one more year warranty, so i'm not changing it before that).
There was also AlfaRomeo GT, that was very cool car too.
btw. what's your opinion about Crossfire (haven't seen here any conversation about that).

Have you seen Crossfire in live? In my opinion it was ugly at pictures, but in live it wasn't so bad at all...
AutoMotorUndSport tested (Testjahrbuch 2004) Nissan 350Z, Crossfire and one (which i don't remember). Nissan was last in that test. I think the one which i don't remember was German car (and "of course" it won the test).
I'm buying that magazine so i can tell all about that test, or have anyone read that test?

on the contrary, most uk mags (top gear, autocar, evo, car etc) rate the 350Z as THE best in the new crop of coupe's.... the only one who doesn't seem to like it is Clarkson, but then again he's got issues with nissan since he was ridiculed live a while back....

I haven't seen that TopGear episode, where they tested the 350Z. But i have heard that Clarkson didn't like Nissan's interior, and i agree. The whole interior reminds me the old Nissan Sunny
