Can anyone help me with this?
We are having a contstant battle trying to get people to stop parking on the Zig Zag's when dropping off / collecting their children. I have put up notices and given several verbal....(ahem) warnings. We had a kid knocked over last year and don't really want any more accidents.
I know it is an offence stated in The Road Traffic Act but can I heck as find anything that states it.
Am currently knocking up some posters to try scare tac-tics, have also obviously taken peoples number plates whist they have watched me do it. The best I can do so far is the Highway Code!!!
I would like something a little more official!
Any ideas?

Have you tried asking Traffic wardens for help? Or 'parking services' through the Council (we have such a department in Bristol - so would assume it would be the same everywhere else).
Or you could get someone to dress up in a flourescent yellow jacket, sit on a folding chair with a notepad (we have those too and nobody is quite sure what they do, but most behave when they see one)

Ban the school run. I say!
Parents should not be allowed to park within 500 yards of a school. 20mph speed restriction sleeping poloicemen etc. outside schools. Bloody rediculous! Only required a few hours a day on about half the days in a year. Provide proper pavements and controlled crossings. Make them walk or take the omnibus. The hazard to children around schools is other childrens crazed parents in there great big landranger thingies
Better idea!........ boarding school for athe lot of them. Preferable somewhere like linconshire. Very empty boring and flat Linconshire Schlool run once a term. No swarms of noisy kids ignoring the beneifits of the pavement making the place look untidy. All I wanted was anounce of ready rub and my copy of the Lady can I get into the **** shop no. Great swathes of the little buggers like Wildebeest on the planes of Africa.
That's it boarding school.. cold showers, early morning runs ....ah matron.
Never did me any harm!

The Highway Code is official. Anywhere it says "You must not" means there is legislation governing it.The best I can do so far is the Highway Code!!!

This includes references to the appropriate legislation. Assuming you are referring to school entrance markings, this legislation is the RTRA, sects 5&8. This is the Road Traffic Regulation Act , not the Road Traffic Act which may explain why you couldn't find it.

Yea if it was windin me up I would do the following ::
1) Wear an illumionous jacket.
2) Get a clipboard and get 50 odd photocopied sheets done up. Using Microsoft word -- put on the top of them in big bold letters 'Parking disciplinary form'.
3) Get a digital camera (doesn't need any film).
When anyone parks incorrectly -- firstly take a photo of their vehicle however it is parked. -- then write their details on the form. Number plate number, type of car .. etc. Make sure of course they see you doing this.
Most will **** their pants! If anyone asked what you are doing .. say 'you are parked illegally so I'm taking your details'.
If they ask if you are a trafffic warden say 'No I'm the new community leader and I'm doing this for the police'. (This is not a word of a lie .. you can give this info. to the police afterwards .. admittedly they will just throw it away .. begin police and all!).
If they ask 'Have they got a ticket' .. say 'No at the moment you've been asked to see who the constant offenders are'.
You do this for a few days -- I guarantee people will stop parking there. Its the old 'act authoritarian' practice.
