Just wondering if the actual camera's (like video cameras) have to be spaced 1 mile apart to enable them to judge your speed correctly, I always thought they had to be. They're not the big yellow boxes with the red eyes but blue metal posts with the cameras way up high.
There's ones gone up near me that are less than a mile apart and so I'm just thinking in advance of an arguement if I get done for speeding!
Does anyone know for sure?

No not the blue boxes I know they're not cams, Can't really explain them as they may be different in each county but thay're about as high as street lights with what looks similar to a pair of binoculars pointing down which is the camera bit.

they are called SPECS - be carefull.
When they first were installed in Nottingham so many people lost their licenses.
Look at this comment
"The SPECS system is so efficient and user friendly that Manchester CTO
processed 2,500 offences in 6 man-hours."

If any type of camera is being used to measure speed then they have to have a Yellow/orange background/covering so U can see them..
However the "Specs" type camera systems can also be deployed to identify Road tax dodgers. In which case they do not have to be identified with the background..
However not all forces have joined the "coloured background" scheme
So it pay's to be vigilant..
If it was a speed camera setup and U don't get a "NIP" (notice of Intent to Prosecute) within 14 days then U have got away with it

Yeah, I thought that was the case too. Something about it not only being 2 SPECS cameras that are linked but all of them, so if you go past 3 in a row and you're speeding past all of them, you could get 2 fines!hmm didnt think they were legal as something about privacy laws ?
guess they are then bah !!!!
The privacy law bit comes in because if they are all linked they could concievably be used to track peoples movements around the country.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

Hi
I have been talking with 2 friends today, one who is married to a traffic cop and the other who works for Notts City Council road safety team.
Apparently the SPECS are digital cameras through which your speed is measured between the number of points you drive through and you can therefore be fined according to your average speed (should it be beyond the designated road speed).
According to my friend, it has been very successful on the Nottingham ring road, as all those who *spot* cameras and then slow down, are successfully prosecuted as a median reading can be obtained.
Don't know if that's any help to you, most of it went straight over my head! I've enough to worry about without speeding, more concerned about getting pulled on that dodgy plate!
