Hi Guys

Fab forum! Am proud to say I am a 206cc owner, I love her! She's beautiful......

Anyways, have any of you got a private plate that is improperly spaced? If so, have you been stopped and what was the result of being stopped?

Thanks

Sammy :blush-thx:

I had an illegally spaced private numberplate on my car for about 4 years, then on the Saturday I got a Penalty Charge Notice from a traffic warden for illegal spacing (I also got a parking ticket at the same time, ) then on the Sunday I got stopped by the Police and got given a producer and had to get new numberplates and get them approved by an MOT centre and take that too the Police Station. I now have legal spacing on my numberplate! :D

Never altered mine, been tailed a few times by the local constabulary obviously checking the plate out. Also had commented "your plate must be illegal" and "yes, but what about the rest of the plate" whenever I quote for insurance etc.

I'm get the feeling there is an on going clamp down on cherished/private plates illegally spaced This sort of attention never happened much in the past.

But what about non special plates, but with a fancy font, are they clamping down on those too?

I dont have one, but there is one in my road, its italic with very thin letters/numbers

When I ring for insurance quotes I usually get

"...yes sir I have got your name already, its your registration number that I need..."

the reason they are clamping down is because roadside camera's such as ANPR are having trouble reading mis-placed plates and more so illegal font plates.

although mines is mis-placed i haven't been blatant enough to put a screw in the G to make it look like a 6 which i guess has helped me not to get pulled for it.

I think it is ridiculous that spacing is illegal. I can understand that dodgy italics, small lettering and mis-shaped letters or those altered by number plate screws are not allowed but to re-space a legal plate is fair enuff in my book. Just coz their shitty cameras cant read it - they should wait until technology works rather than rushing it out to scoop as much money as possible from us

Who was the tory who turned up in a car with the plate K111 TAX with a number plate screw turning the first '1' into an 'i'? Can i demand that i will pay my fine when they pusue HIM too?
