Test drove the 307cc today.
I saw it in the local showroom last Sunday and although I didn’t like the front of the car the rest is very nice. The roof operation was much quieter and no locks to do up either, although the mechanism looks a little flimsy compared to the latches on the 206cc. The boot lid also felt a bit wobbly when opening, but I like where they have situated the button for the boot release. Centre of the 307 badge. Over all I was very tempted and was going to come on the Forum to get some of you to talk some sense in to me.
Well I test drove one today and was unimpressed. I am not going to slag it off, but will only say that it is definitely more of a poser’s car than a driver’s car. But four people can pose with ease in this CC. The clutch felt like a damp sponge and the acceleration was poor. When I read an article that said the 180bhp version done 0-60 in 10 second I thought they were driving the 138 version by mistake. They obviously were not. I was told the 0-60 is about 12 seconds on the 138 version. And boy does it feel like it. The old 306 cabrio with 120bhp felt much quicker. Brakes were adequate for the pace. But it’s what I imagine an escort cabrio would drive like.
The interior is nice especially if you get black and red leather dash. You don’t get blown about sitting in the back with the roof down either. And it is really nice being a passenger in any of the seats. To me I think Peugeot has boobooed again though. This car needs a V6. It has the dynamics to take on Audi, Volvo and BMW cabs, but just doesn’t have the pace with its high revving 2.0lt engines. But then I did read somewhere that the next 407 coupe will be a CC so this is possibly why the 307 isn't gunning for anything better than Renaults, and VW cabrios.
To sum up I would say get it if you are carting more than two people around and if you are not in to traffic light racing. I can see professional people and mothers driving this one. I’m sorry to bring it up again, but I would go for a Pluriel. Daft looks aside. It will blow away the 307 cc even with an auto box and it also accommodates 4 people better than the 307cc plus it has a better chassis that the 206 cc.

i was thinking the same as darth (not the pluriel thing!) that such a big and heavy car would need a much more powerful engine. Looks fairly good, but wouldnt go for one......(the Z awaits me...)

I dont agree really. The 138 has a 0-60 of just over 10 seconds, ok. But figures arent even out yet for the 180. 180 bhp is a perfectly respectable figure for a car in the 307cc's class, especially in the current car market where performance is generally sacrificed for CO2 figuresi was thinking the same as darth (not the pluriel thing!) that such a big and heavy car would need a much powerful engine. according to a feature in the paper on friday the 180bhp is about 1 second quicker than the 138bhp which would make it around 9.3.
at the end of the day it isn't a performance car and is carrying a lot of weight which will slow it down. a V6 engine would be a great idea but if the 180bhp has a basic price of £20,900 then i wouldn't like to imagine what a V6 would cost - it would be well priced out of the market.
as for the pluriel, just reading in todays paper that the monkeys that i bought my car from are selling it with 5yrs 0% finance - there was a review on it too - not complimentary !

ok that they are 2 very different cars but between a 21 grand 307 CC and a 24 grand 350Z I wouldn't even think about it too long.....

at the moment i'm between the 307CC and the RX-8. hoping to control myself and wait until later next year before buying a car. i've told myself i need to build a garage first so that helps

eheheh true derek, no folding roof feels like a step backward..... rx8 looks good! got 4 seats and those funky rear hinged back doors.... i like it as well, furthermore it's cheaper than the 350Z (although it lacks a bit on performance compared to it) but apparently the rotary engine is VERY oil hungry! I read that Mazda recommends to check the oil level every other refueling (!!!!!). Stylewise, still prefer the 350Z over it although I agree with you that the rx8 is very nice (and unusual) too!. Mind you, the people that pre-ordered it are in the same situation as the ones that pre-ordered the 350Z, the cars haven't showed up yet (!!!).....
Personally I discarded the 307CC from my list.... I don't find it value for money

I believe there will be a 350Z convertible. Think it was in the latest edition of EVO. Very nice looking car, but the convertible losses something in the looks department. I think it is the sort of car that looks better as a coupe like the Audi TT.
I didn’t think 21K for the 307 was that bad. The old top of the range 306 cabrio was about the same at one point. A V6 would take it out of a budget that I was prepared to pay. But then that’s why Peugeot sell the 206 cc. As it stands in the 206 cc is more fun and better handling and can accommodate 4 people in an emergency. The 307CC should be all this and more. But it isn't. It compromises the fun for accommodation. Hence where the Pluriel comes in to the equation. The 307cc isn't a very well balanced car as a package. It has everything going for it with the exception of a decent drive. If it were more of a driver’s car (what Peugeot were once renowned for) it could command more money and take some BMW and Audi sales. There are no cars I can think of in this sector with a folding metal roof.
Personally I guess I am pleased I didn’t like the 307cc anywhere near as much as my 206cc. I just wish the Peugeot brand would sort themselves out. I guess the next car I will be considering will be the 207cc when it come out, but it will have to better the 206cc and not be a compromise to it.

Darth the 350Z roadster is out in japan, just been launched in US and won't be in Uk before 2005.... I agree with you the roadster loses quite a bit in the looks dept (plus no metal folding roof grr). It looks like it has been an afterthought from the coupe' (just like the TT roadster IMO).
