Finally the day of my 6 month service. I was told it would only take an hour, it turned into a three hour wait.

Afterwards I was told that it needs to be booked in again for:

1). The roof mechanism to be stripped down because the boot creaks when in operation.

2). The engine to be looked at as it looses revs and becomes "lumpty" at standstill.

Went straight to Riverdale Mercedes dealers in Brighton, took a test drive (wow) and bought the new 230 SLK for 30K.

Sorry folks, but the leak, stripped doors etc etc etc I could put up with, the rest was one straw too many.

I'll still have my CC over the summer though which will be fun as I've got six month's to wait again for the SLK so I won't think about selling it at least until the autumn.

Robbie - I don't blame you (she says enviously !) We're working towards the same, cc gave a flavour of hard-top convertible driving at an affordable price, next step - move up a rung and go for what I really hanker after ! Why not to 300 with AMG kit?

I've not gone further than looking at them enviously Robbie. Any idea how they compare with the Lexus with the similar roof operation?

I was parked next to two SLKs yesterday, they did look fantastic, not sure I'd be comfortable with such an expensive car, have to be more cautious about hwere I park it etc. In an ideal world though... Give me a few years of payrises!

Thanks all.

I haven't compared the SLK with the Lexus SC430 Roadster mainly because I couldn't justify to myself the extra 20k at 50.

I had wrestled with the usual contenders, boxster/205bhp TT/BMW 3 series conv/etc but the folding steel roof/looks/power + road handling of the 230 SLK won the day for me.

Yes I was tempted with the AMG styling kit but by that stage I'd already bought a number of accessories (heated seats etc)and the kit was on the new SL (the SL blimey! had to avert my guaze less my fingers did something really stupid on my checkbook).

I would still recommend the CC highly to anyone reading this topic and thinking of purchasing one because they are such great fun. I seem to have been unlucky with one of those friday cars but I'm sure there's plenty of owners with no problems whatsoever.

Roll on summer.

Robbie if I had £30,000 I would go for a BMW 3 series without a doubt. M3 if possible (mmmmmm in my dreams) mind you my plate is ready for that car. M3 ***

It was a very close call, but the lure of that folding steel roof tipped the balance.

I see you have all started to give up with Peugeot as well, I felt like the bad sheep of the family at one stage. It looks like you have all suffered the same as I did!

NS, there seems plenty of members who haven't had problems with their cc's and some who have, but most of the members haven't given up on the cc's because it is a great fun car. I still endorse it as I mentioned above, I was just unlucky in the end with my particular car.

Your blanket generalization seems inaccurate.

NS,

my replacement CC appears to be ok. Not seen the leak since it occurred on the 2nd day.

i don't expect everything to always be perfect but that's life.

we can't all be like robbie and go out and buy a Mercedes when the going gets tough

Is the SL roof mech exactly the same or very similar to, the cc? I haven't got closer than sitting behind one in traffic....do they have problems with leaks too (although thinking about it i'm probably asking the wrong people here!) ;)
