The point of buying/forming this company would be soley to secure the name, which as i said might not even help. It could be a dormant company and as such the only cost following the initial outlay would be the £15 annual return fee.

Could see little point in having a company then trading under the same name as a partnership. The partnership is not going to benefit fron any additional protection that the company may provide. the pros and cons regarding partnerships and companies really any decition on the should not be made on on the basis of protecting a name.

If you secure the name the biggest cost would be protecting it

a the cost of protecting the name may not be worth it

b in protecting the name the company may be effectively trading therfor ceasing to be dormant.

Its dormant if it doesnt trade (and doesn't make receive interest etc) - simple as that. The issue is not on the cost of a company, it is whether Ownership of a company called awesome alloys provides any security over the trading name. If not, then the whole issue is pointless! :D
