Ahh the countryside. In a village local to where my horse lives a townie moved in and after a few days asked one of his neighbours what he could do about the noise the birds made in the morning.

:? :?

Burge

Maybe he could have drowned out the Dawn Chorus with a tape of city traffic so that he felt more at home!!

 awww poor thing

bet you wouldn't say that if it was a rat .......they're both vermin!
Duncan have you no heart? No wildlife deserves to be run over by a car. British wildlife is something to be proud of!
Certainly better than being poisioned or shot and wounded.

Vermin have to be controlled. Extermination is neither desirable or practical. If we didn't control vermin to prevent them having a undesireable efect on human life. Left un checked they would limit human food supplies at best making it more expensive and worst causing starvation.

So foxes etc. are going to die whether by poision or bullet. The traps and pack of fox hound options no longer available. We have no idea how a fox feels being run over so we anthropomophize and think that gives an answer moral questions over killing animals.

British approach to animals is inconsistent and illogical. We eat some kill others and keep the rest (cute and fluffy ones) as pets. More foxes die and suffer due to road accidents than by hunting, but we ban hunting and build more roads.

If I drive cars, eat farmed food etc. I have to accept animals die as a result and cant get sentimental when they do.

We could consider getting ride of a few extra humans and banning cars only fair on the poor animals so we can share food and land.

Sugestions on a post card !

Also anyone got any ideas how you run over those pesky grey squirrels?

My wife ( a townie ) finds the quiet of my parents home (country but not issolated) unsettling and is reassured by road noise. Even though I point out that in the country you can at least hear the rapist and burglers before they get any where near you.

To be honest I can get sentimental as many times as I like without you telling me when I can or I can not.
I drive a car and eat chicken and still will get sentimental whenever I feel like being sentimental, if that's ok with you, if it's not THOUGH.

Even country bumpkins (like myself) don't normally go as far as to swerve to hit foxes/badgers/squirels/lions/tigers and bears.

Not like our antipodean cousins. Ever been in a car with a Kiwi or Aussie when something without wheels gets in front of you? :yikes:

Never have I seen bloodlust like it.
They make the National Hunt Association look like the World Wildlife Fund.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

For the record, I believe anything dumb enough to run in front of a moving automobile deserves everything they get, whether thats a fox, pheasant, little old lady, badger, dog, small child, squirrel, buffalo, firefighter, chicken, pig, homosexual, rat, weasel, kitten or labour MP.

So there. :P

Are you sick? Monkeys serve a worthwhile purpose. Who would fix our cars if we eradicated monkeys? The French? No thanks...

If your on a motorbike your supposed to speed up if your going to hit an animal otherwise you stand a bigger chance of being thrown up, don't know how true that is but gives motorbike riders a good excuse to kill stuff
