Why's that then? I've heard some that sound absolutely superb which is why I'm quite keen to get this working. The ones in my friends Saab Turbo have excellent clarity to them and have real punch which is lacking from my current setup. its got the big bass and everything but there is some punch missing in lower mid-range (around 90hz-400hz I reckon). I think they'll make a good support for the kenwoods i have in the front.

I know exactly what you mean.I have a 12" sub in the back but the rear speakers are too weedy, the only time I really hear them is if they start to distort. I want to get some punch from the rear seat area to back up the front speakers.
When I had my CC I had a great sound from the front (PG components) and some great bass from the boot (10" Kenwood sub) but the sound was very er.. "linear" - ie all treble/mid from front & bass from boot. There was no punch or power from the middle of the car which was desperately needed and there was a loss of response from the mid-high bass where the sub stopped and the components kicked in.
I tried to compensate by getting an 8" Sony XPlod sub for the boot (they're supposed to have a decent mid-high bass range) but it was a cheap crappy speaker and made no difference at all.
I'm heavily into sound quality rather than quantity and want a system that can provide equal volume at every single frequency. That's not easy to get, but I'm determined to try damn hard with my new car!

My installer did that. he's set the filter to 70hz though as he said thats where you normally would. The components are on a HPF set to 150hz. Technically, I'm losing a whole 80hz range of sound and I want it back, its mine
The sub says it handles 20hz-(about)500hz but due to it being a 12" it is set lower than that to allow it time to recover during rolling basslines blah blah blah. I think the 6x9's should give me what I'm looking for. Won't hurt to find out though
Can always be removed.

And MattB, you described EXACTLY what my problem is with the setup. I'm into my music and, being an ex-dj/producer having worked in studios, my ears are very much trained in taking music apart and hearing every single thing and I get annoyed when I can't hear what I know is there. Also, if I turn the sub off, there is no bottom end at all. I like to listen to house occasionally and it doesn't really work with a sub so hopefully 6x9's will be able to let me do that.
Fingers crossed anyway.

Well let me know how it goes. I've got much more room in my new car for kitting it up with sound. I've already got some good components in the front and this weekend I'm rebuilding the sub for the boot (going for ported rather than sealed to try and get some better higher bass). After that I need to add some high bass punch similar to what you're doing, and I've got a big parcel shelf to play with! And MattB, you described EXACTLY what my problem is with the setup.
