Can anyone let me know if i buy a boot rack,will i be able to safely tie on my Mountain Bike?
Just seems easier than strapping on a carrier. In theory!
Has anyone tried it?

It sure can hold the weight and if you tie it firm and safe it can be done...
but i WOULDN'T do it if you don't want to damage your paint!
I'm not sure how they are fixed, but can't you just buy an universal bikerack?

When I am taking one bike, I strap it to the boot rack. Take off the pedal that will be at the bottom to avoid scratching the paint, turn round the handle bars and it will fit very securely. For two or more bikes you will have to get a proper bike rack, I suggest you go to a good size bike store that stocks a few different types because its not easy to find a rack that will fit well on the CC. The problem is the top of the boot, because its not flat the rack will not sit properly and it will be able to rock from side to side a bit, this will get worse until the rack brakes and falls off as I found out to my cost. I eventually found one to fit but Im still not completely happy with it. Hope you have better luck than me.
