Hi All.

I guess this forum has quite a good cross section of drivers of different levels of Experience and ages.

Alex LS and myself have differing opinions of the Engine Additive Slick 50.

And yes i have to resort to a poll (Yawn Yawn)

I actually did use it years ago. Found the difference didn't justify the cost. Now, I have to wonder why the top-of-the-range fully synthetic oils don't contain it if it's so good - considering the billions they spend on research. Also, why many car manufacturers actually state that oil additives will void the warranty.

At the end of the day, use it if you want. I'm just trying to point out that it's not necessarily the best thing to be putting in your engine.

Ok m8 Point taken, but if ya think about this, Everyone knows never to race the engine when cold, and the reason being that all the oil has trickled away from the engines moveing parts and sitting in the sump being totally useless untill you turn the key and get it thrown around your engine again,But i beleive if its got a ptfe coating on the parts then its got that little bit extra protection between metal to metal.

And You get a Little sticker to put on Your Engine lol.

But i suppose your right its personal taste m8

Slick 50 is a con. Believe me I worked in engine oil formulation with a majot petrochemical company. I can assure you that despite the so called tests that demonstrate wear resistance it's smoke and mirrors. Premium engine oils cost millions to develop, and once formulated they must pass stringent tests where engines are run for hundreds of hours and then dismantled and graded for wera etc. My advice is spend your money on a premium synthetic such as Mobil 1 and don't be tempted to mess around with the chemistry by added "snake oil"

That's the point. The main cause of startup wear is not metal-metal contact but the acid etching. Teflon has no effect on that - oil dissipation does. You should start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 seconds before moving away to let the oil get up to pressure - that will do more good than all the Teflon in the world.

Well im only talking from Expereince after all, at the ripe old age of 33 and 9 cars (and 2 Scrap Heap challenges) later, ive not had any probs with the engine at all ,and they have all had a drink of Slick 50.

And even this car was sluggish and hesitant, i know its only the 206cc s version but it still shouldnt do that.

And Guess what after a guzzle of the slick it works a treat.

Well that should tell ya it doesnt blow ya Engine up or make ya Wheels fall off lol

Anyway who cares who uses it or not.

I do/and will carry on useing it.

I cant beleive all this started with my little Reply LMAO

The Offending Post

I Drop the oil every 10k and ive done that with every car ive owned.

I also put Slick 50 in it too, it protects the engine and makes it more Efficient ,and it lasts for 50k before you do it again. it coats all the engine parts in a golden protective layer and you just drop the oil as normal.

I did my new 206cc with only 30 miles on the clock "Well Protected"

The Fact Ive had 11 cars (2 Bangers Inc)and ive used slick in all of them.
With No Engine Problems.

You have had 8 and No problems, and ya dont put additives in.

Maybe its the Little Sticker ya get that does the trick.

The point being, it didnt cause me any problems putting it in.
And it made the engine seem smoother if i didnt see a difference than i wouldnt have got it after the first time.

I think the only thing we proved is that it didnt make any difference what so ever whether you used the stuff or not!
