Hi, My CC has now clocked up 1000 miles after which, several of you heplful forum people recommend I change the engine oil. Anyway.....my Dad voluntered to change it for me, so yesterday I despatched myself off to my local halfords to buy some oil, unfortunatly I left empty handed due to a) being a woman b) confused with the vast choice available c) the numbers on the side d) not knowing anything about cars apart from driving them. A halfords employee told me that Mobil 1 was the best and if I bought it I would notice a huge difference in my cars performance. I also couldn't help noticing that it was 3 times the price of the normal stuff. Is this true? Is it worth it?
Help.
Thanks
Lucy
i wouldn't bother as stephen says. i did mines around 11k. meant to do it at 10k but never got round to it thankfully as i burst the sump after a slight accident so it got done with that.
i have already bought castrol fully synthetic to do at 30k - about £15 from makro as i just had my 20k service a few weeks ago.

I changed to Mobile 1 after 1000 miles. I can’t say its better because I haven’t driven any other CC's. But I have no complaints with my cars engine performance, economy and haven’t had any problems. As for using the oil recommended in the user manual. Well if anyone here can see where to buy it then please tell me. Isn’t it castrol gt!!? Or something. I even went to my local dealership to see if they could get the recommended oil for me. They told me they use Castrol magnetec. They also said that any oil would do so long as it is at least semi-synthetic and is of the recommended viscosity. Mind you this is coming from a dealer that puts old engine oil back in you car at service time. (But that’s another story).
Anyway here is a little test. Take the dipstick out and see if you have any small black particles at the bottom. Now do you want this debris in you engine for the next 20k?
at the end of the day changing the oil every two minutes only helps the engine last longer and if you don't intend keeping the car for it's lifetime then who cares what is floating about in it - that's for the next owner to worry about.

I changed mine at just over 6k - after the Pug checkup. I stuck Castrol Formula RS in it, 0w-40 fully synthetic. Definitely noticed an increase in mpg (and a less noticeable possible power improvement) which now seems to have tailed off over another 4k.
I wouldn't recommend changing oil every 1000 miles just the first 1000 as you will get a certain amount of swarf from cylinder ring and other components whilst the car is running in. It probably isn’t worth doing it if you only intend to keep the car a couple of years. Hell if it didn’t affect resale price and if you only intend to keep the car for 3 or 4 years why bother getting the car serviced at all? but as Alex has just mentioned it does make the car more economical and with today’s petrol prices it makes the initial cost for the oil a little more sensible.
I Drop the oil every 10k and ive done that with every car ive owned.
I also put Slick 50 in it too, it protects the engine and makes it more Efficient ,and it lasts for 50k before you do it again. it coats all the engine parts in a golden protective layer and you just drop the oil as normal.
I did my new 206cc with only 30 miles on the clock "Well Protected"
Wot a load of bollacks m8, if that was the case then why is it the No 1 Engine additive in the uk m8. and at £26 ish a bottle it aint cheap either lol.
As ive said ive used it in all my cars and after 50miles you can see the improvement.
When slick 50 first came out they gave a guarantee that you could drive your car without any oil in the engine for 10 miles. ( although i wouldnt like to try it ) But they dont give that guarantee anymore, maybe that is what all the fuss was about with the americans.
it puts a ptfe coating on the engine parts and stays there for 50k miles so is that a bad thing. I think Not M8
It's number one because it's the one that's bought the most. Still doesn't mean it's any good. What makes you think Teflon is a good coating for engine cylinders?
Well put it this way m8 ,its got to be better than bare metal.
It would be nice to see if anyone else has used Slick 50 in there engines in the past, and what they thought of it.
Im not claiming to Know all the ins and outs of ptfe based products, all i know is i can see the improvement when i use slick 50 and there are less metalic particles when it comes to dropping the oil.
At the end of the day its just One argument that cant be won, it hasnt been proven that it acually harms the Engine or proven that it helps, although Slick states it reduces friction by 50% and fuel consumption down by 13%, but at the same time they wont reveal the labs that tested it.
Who Knows M8
