What a great site. I bought my little 206 cc only in June and am really happy with her. I did come here to see if I could find what could be causing the noises that only appeared when the engine was cold. Also the vibration and "lumpiness". All disappear when the car is running warm. It is a relief to see I am not alone. It came as a helluva shock to me today to check my tyre pressures. I'm from a generation that didn't ask you to PAY for air!!;)

Hello Janet? Welcome to the forum. I always use my own pump and tyre pressure gauge but many folk find a service station near to them that doesn't charge.
Compressors cost money both to buy and run so any business not charging is losing money on providing the service free.
Glad you like your "new" car. I'd take a guess you've got an older 2.0 litre, yes?

Sorry it took a long time to reply to this one. Yes you are correct she is an 02 reg. Just as a matter of interest I wonder if other people use Puegeot dealers for parts only, or is it "safe" to buy from people who advertise on the web as suppliers of spares. There seems to be a huge discrepancy in price

Depends what you're buying. I only use genuine Peugeot oil filters for example. People have had problems with pattern parts which often cost you more with the problems they cause. Your vibration and "lumpiness" might be cured with an oil and filter change for example. The 20,000 mile, 2 year, service interval is too long in my opinion, especially for 2.0 litre models which have been known to suffer from the dreaded tappet problem. Fresh oil every 12 months works wonders.

Hi guys my 1.6cc has started to get exactly the same symptons, vibration in the gearstick, a metallic noise when running cold and very lumpy acceleration. Is it just a simple case of an oil & filter change to cure this then? I also recently has some electrical problems, the interior light kept flickering when I opened the door & the central locking failed. I have since changed the battery which seems to have cured the problem. But now I have this new problem, do you think they're linked in any way?

How many miles has your car done? When, and at what mileage was the last oil and filter change carried out? What fuel are you using and where do you fill up?burger wrote:Hi guys my 1.6cc has started to get exactly the same symptons, vibration in the gearstick, a metallic noise when running cold and very lumpy acceleration. If you've only just replaced the battery the car may be in the process of relearning your driving style.

The car is an 02 reg and it's only done 38k. It had a full service in July last year at 37k. The nearest petrol station near me is Morrisons, which I always use as it's on my way to work so I normally fill up using normal unleaded, but I don't reckon it's the fuel really, as I would presume this kind of thing would have happened alot sooner, though I may be wrong.GrandadMonkey wrote:How many miles has your car done? As long as the oil was the correct grade and your filter a decent one, preferably o.e.m. then I don't think an oil and filter change is going to help you.
I'm not a big fan of supermarket fuel and never use it nowadays. One car I had would never run right on it. I always use Shell, BP, Texaco or Total.
At 40k a change of spark plugs is recommended in the service schedule and I wonder whether your spark plugs have ever been changed?
