I've always suspected my trip computer's Average Speed function is faulty as it always shows an average of 30 something, so when i resetted the computer tonight, I kept it on average speed to see it build up. To my surprise, it began to decrease while I stopped at a traffic light!!!

How could this be? I would expect it to only calculate when the car is in motion!! No wonder my average speed is normally around 30-35km/h when i look at it!!! Is my computer stuffed?? Anyone else notice the same thing on theirs? :?: :?: :?:

Mine always show 32 - 34 when I notice it.

I'm always motoway driving, so I'm sure it should read more then it says.

donno.

How do you reset it?

How do you reset it?
Keep holding down the computer button on the stalk for a few seconds.

the average speed is calculated while ever the ignition is ON.

So if you sit on the drive with the ignition on and go no where for 15 minutes it will still calculate zero miles driven over 15 mins = ZERO

So when you stop at traffic lights it WILL reduce your average speed

D'oh

i have had average speed somewhere between 80 and 90 before (karting meet actually) but that was only because i set it when i left the house, and drove straight to the motorway. The journey through town and the 50 mph speed limits on the m20 kept it down. If you re-set whilst on the motorway you will see that it will avarage at higher speeds.

Funnily enough though, mine always seems to be about 30-35 mph - never lower, even when i do a lot of stop/start town driving. :?
