Hi There, I took delivery of a brand new cc this afternoon (I was soooo excited) As I was leaving the showroom I asked the salesman if I had to run the engine in for a certain length of miles and he told me that no running in was required and that I could drive the car (I have the 2.0 engine) completly as normal straight away. Has anybody else been told this? and would anybody recommend taking any precautions with the engine for a certain number of miles just to be on the safe side???
Thanks.
I was told not to bother running it in, but i plan on keeping this car for a couple of years at least so i kept it reasonable for the first 1000 miles anyway, just to be on the safe side
With the tolerances of modern engines you really don't have to run them in, but I always stick to under 4,000rpm for the first 500 miles just to be sure.
I also change the engine oil after the first 1,000 miles.
Try to keep between 2000- 4000 rpm and under 60mph. plus do not let the engine struggle up hills etc. Try to slow down gently, but do not use the engine as a brake. I done this for the first 1000 miles and also changed my oil at said point. It is surprising the amounts of small dark particle are in the oil after such a short period of time. I still wouldn’t rag it until you get to 6000 mile though.
A mate of mine had a new 306 and raced it about straight away. He now frequently tops up with oil. So I personally think it is worth taking care for the first few K miles.
Thanks for all your feedback regarding 'running in of the engine' T'was most helpful. Ive had my sexy black cc for 48 hours and I think Ive made a BIG mistake........I should have bought the Agean blue instead, I saw two today and

I was told too that there's no need to running it in. But i also keep it under 4000rpm. for the first 1000miles. It's important to drive first miles with variability rpm's (i meen driving in motorway and in city, not only in city-cruising )
