I have a simple steering lock - non a full disklok, just one of those bar things. I know that it's not very good for a determined thief, but my theory is that:

1) if someone really wants to nick your car, they'll get any steering lock off.
2) If parked next to a car without a steering lock, the theief will go for the one without.

It's more of a deterant than an anti-theft device in my opinion. It's much more likely that a determined thief will break into your house & nick your keys, in which case it doesn't matter what sort of lock you have.

I have a full disk lock, purely because its silver and compliments my blue car!!. No honestly its a great piece of mind, insurance companies don't give me anymore discount. As it is quite large it does fit under the passagers seat nicely.

Basically if you want piece of mind and you dont use the back seats (as no-where to put feet with disk-lok in the back) pop down to Halfords and spend £70.00. They come in silver or yellow!. 8)

If someone is going to steal your CC the will have to know thier way past th immobisier and alarm a mechanical lock which can be easily broken with the right tools is not going to deter them. It will also not stop some breaking in for the contents. It may some idiot think it needs extra security, is easy to break into and have a try. Ok the alarm will probaly scare him off but you may still have a bill for a damaged lock or broken window. If you want extra security think seriouly about Cat 1 alarm or Tracker.

These day keeping your keys safe is probaly more important. So don't put them down anywhere which is easily vibsable or accessable from you front door or window. A ddor can be broken doen and kes grabed in seconds but they'll ony do it if they think they can get the keys quickly. Keep keys in a pocket when out or in the office etc. Not in jackets, hand bags etc. which can be grabbed.

I have a Disklok on all 3 of our cars. I know they work as we watched an AA man struggle for over 2 hours recently outside work. Some poor devil in a BMW had lost his key (not laughing really) and I finished work before i saw if they ever got it off. There was certainly a lot of hammering going on.

As for £70 - NOOOOOOOOOOo, pop down to mine and Dereks favourite COSTCO where you can buy them for about £36

and as for ebay - its not them as a company you're buying off, its the individual seller, a bit like answering an ad in the back of the newspaper to buy something. I have bought plenty of stuff on ebay in the past and know others here have too with no problem. You can look at the sellers "feedback" (comments from people who have bought stuff off them previoulsy) to try and get an idea if they're reliable or not...

dont worry about the membership cost...

they have a policy that says if you are not happy with your memberships value for money that you can cancel it at any time in the first 12 months for a full refund.

So you have nothing to lose.

I am a real tight wad and I have been a member for years now :) so it must be good value for money. Hell Derek is a member and he is Scottish
