a truck sucked up an aluminium bbq cover today at around 100 kph and it flew smack into the front of my pug

we pulled over shortly afterward expecting the worst but was surprised to see that it had only scratched the bonnet (almost a metre long), scratched the headlight and gouged the black plastic of the bumper.

after a bit of buffing with autoglym paint restorer and super resin polish ive managed to remove 95%+ of the scratches and its a nice even black with no visible white underneath. you can only see some scratches from an angle now and the super resin polish even removed nearly all the scratches from the headlight!

the bumper care let me down though, it didnt repair the gouge - only the scuff marks ;)

pretty scary moment to say the least. im impressed by how strong the bonnet is and the paint must be reasonably thick also.

i didnt know autoglym existed until reading at this site - thanks :)

bye,
Ian

it was sitting on the road and the truck sucked it up - it didnt come off the truck itself or i would have chased him down. i didnt see it until it was becoming airborne off the road and had no time to avoid it.

the truck was one of those huge bark carrying B-doubles.

there is probably some bloke scratching his head wondering where the top of his BBQ is after buying it in Dandenong and ferrying it home.

the black plastic bit of the bumper shouldnt be too hard to replace (hoping...)

bye,
Ian

Bummer, looks like you have to wear it but at least from your description you've pretty much fixed the scatch and it's just the bumper that needs attention. Annoying incident but I guess just one of those things that you haven to accept.

$63 for the black bit on the bumper, quite reasonably price IMO. was imagining anything from $50 to $500 to be honest...

thanks for the interest guys :)

Yeah have to be carefull tailing a large truck, I have heard a house brick got stuck between those double wheel of a truck somewhere earlier, and on the freeway it dislodge, flung like a cannon through the windshield of a car behind, kill the passenger.
