What is 'showroom mode' for the 206cc?

How do I tell if my car is in this mode? (I think it is!).

Any help at all appreciated!

From the post entitled

New 206cc - Idling speed and revs in general

Someone said the garage said his 206cc was in 'showroom mode' and turned it back to normal mode. Or something.

I ain't got a clue what it's all about myself .. anyone else ?

A guess:

Maybe it's to do with different economy mode settings. i.e. You can use the radio/windows etc. without the key in the ignition & stuff like that.

Perhaps.

I don't believe there is such a thing as "showroom mode"

So am I supposed to believe that Peugeot programmed the 206CC with two entirely different engine maps? What would be the point of this? so the car is more economical for the 1 mile it gets driven by the dealer?

Maybe the dealer was having a competition to see who could fob off a customer with the most stupid excuse that day.

I believe the symptoms you are describing are due to tougher emission laws now. I assume the car has a fly by wire throttle (potentiometer instead of a cable) which also seems to cause the problem where the revs still rise for a second after you take your foot off the throttle.

Under the old laws a car was allowed a certain amount of time for warmup before it had to meet emision limits. The rules have now changed and a car has to meet these limits as soon as it is started. This means a car will be running very lean when it is first started and hence can sometimes cause the stuttering you describe.

On the otherhand it could be you have car hypochondria about you new car and every little noise and vibration makes you think something is wrong with the car.

mine comes up with economy mode if I listen to the radio with the ignition on for a while. DOes anyone know how to turn that off because you have to start the car to re set the system.

You can't.

It also does that if you leave the side lights on for a while, then come back and try to turn the main lights on - they wont come on till you turn the key

I believe "showroom mode" was something programmed into early models of the CC...it enabled the following features to be activated when you took a test drive at the dealer:

1. The roof would not leak in wet weather conditions

2. The carpet would not come loose and come unstuck at the edges.

3. The brakes would not squeak.

4. The stereo actually sounded decent.

I understand that as soon as you purchased a CC and went to pick it up, the salesman would disconnect this "showroom mode" by means of a hidden switch somewhere on the car.

it was me that had the car in 'showroom mode'. This nanifested itself as a 2000 rpm tickover, not just when cold but all the time. So parking was interesting- made me sound like one of those OAPs who rev at 7000 and slip the clutch whilst inching into a parking space. It made pedestrians scatter! Oh yes, the symptoms were real alright. Better now the car is not in showroom mode. Whatever that is. They also adjusted the throttle cable which may/may not have made more difference. As for frugal fuel consumption I clocked mid 20's mpg for moderate driving before going to the garage but now after adjustment I can get into the 30's very easily - unless I drive 'normally' that is...

Not sure how much difference it makes. Because the engine's computer controlled, I think it adjusts automatically if the cable is in the wrong place.

When I changed my oil a couple of months ago, I put the engine flush in. You're meant to idle fast (around 2krpm) for 15 minutes so I adjusted the throttle cable accordingly. Within a couple of minutes, the engine settled back down to 800rpm. So I let it out again and the engine again settled on 800rpm...
