I've currently got a September 01 CC which I want to trade in for a new registration CC in September. I'd like some advice about the best way of doing this. Obviously I'll get better prices from car supermarkets than from main dealerships but it'll cost me in part exchange value. The sensible thing may be to sell privately but as I'm a single girlie I'm cautious about doing that as I may be ripped off or have a stranger go for a test drive and never return.
What do I do?!

I'm not as green as I'm frog looking!! What I meant is that if I have a 15 stone guy test driving the car I'm a bit easier to kick out en route than another 15 stone man would be, so its more risky selling a car privately as a female than a bloke. So other than getting Erm to provide chaperone services are there any other suggestions?

I don't think a 15 stone guy would fit in a CC!I'm not as green as I'm frog looking!! Blondie, you could get me to provide a chaperone service!

Blondie, I just traded my car in for another. You can also trade one dealer off against the other by inviting the second dealer to better an offer.
I made sure I visited at least 2 dealerships, (if poss visit 3) I expressed my interest in another vehicle and then asked for the best trade in price.
They always begin by asking what I want for the trade in. I always give a number higher than I'd accept and slowly we meet in the middle. I know what the vehicles worth in advance to prevent rip off- you can always pick up "Parkers Guide" on second hand prices in WH Smith or some dealers will show you the trade/sell price in his Glasses Guide/Black Cap Book)
After that I got to work on asking for a discount on the new vehicle.
1st dealer offered me £,20,000 for my trade in and no discount.
Second dealer offered a better overall deal of £21,250 which I accepted

Thanks for the advice. I'd checked the Glasses guide value of the car before I went to the dealer. They just gave me book value for trading in my car and no discount on the new CC. Are any dealerships offering discounts on the CC yet??
As for the chaperone service, thanks for the offer. Can't promise I'll turn into a princess but might be fun finding out

What's with those English dealers anyway
:
Isn't what Robbie says the most common thing to do? Over here it is. You often can get a better deal on a car when trading one in then when you don't...
When i read your stories about service, warranty, repairs and manuals, you made me worry about having my CC. But no probs over here sofar...
Best thing to do is play the dealers against eachother i guess.

Might not be the best selling point for a CC having a 15 stone chaperone wedged in the back of your car with you and the prospective buyer in the front! And anyway, whats wrong with being a 15 stone CC driver? I was close to that weight last September
A healthy 13 and a half now, but no CC  Oh well....never mind!

Going out with Julia, that what does it,enough to make anyone lose weight
Blondie,as for getting a deal,Dave M is the one to chat with, seems it got a blinding deal on his cc though a UK dealer
I will say that sept isnt really a good month to buy cos they have just sold tons of motors and so dont need business.June is always very quiet in motor trade or just after xmas.
